Today, we had a wonderful engagement with Ambassador Tom Chih-Chiang Lee, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York and Head of the UN Affairs Task Force in New York, and Mr. Wei-Ren Huang, Esq., Political Division Director.

We were honored to share lunch and engage in meaningful discussions on Taiwan’s economic development, international cooperation, and areas of mutual interest. Following the luncheon, we were given a tour of the office, which provided valuable insight into the important work being undertaken to advance Taiwan’s international engagement and strengthen diplomatic and cultural partnerships.

Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over 40 years, reflecting a longstanding partnership grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation. Throughout the years, this enduring relationship has fostered collaboration in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure development, and capacity building, benefiting the people of both nations.

One of the lighter moments of the visit came when we learned about a unique Taiwanese tradition for photographs. Rather than saying “cheese,” photographers in Taiwan often call out, “西瓜甜不甜?” (“Is the watermelon sweet?”), to which everyone responds, “甜!” (“Sweet!”), naturally bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. Needless to say, we were happy to put this tradition into practice during our visit!

We extend our sincere gratitude to Ambassador Lee and Mr. Huang for their warm hospitality, thoughtful discussions, and the opportunity to learn more about Taiwan’s achievements and initiatives. We look forward to the continued strengthening of the friendship and cooperation between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. 🇹🇼🇻🇨🍉📸

On May 20th, we had the pleasure of spending a truly enlightening and productive afternoon with Stanley and Patrice Thornton, developers of innovative soil and plant amendments designed to support sustainable agriculture and enhanced crop production. The Consulate also acknowledges Mr. Clive Bishop (Bish-I), who was instrumental in facilitating the connection and encouraging outreach regarding these discussions and potential areas of collaboration.

The discussions explored potential applications and benefits for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, particularly in light of agricultural challenges, including the widespread impact of sargassum and the need to strengthen soil health, crop resilience, and sustainable farming practices.

Their company’s work focuses on developing solutions that increase crop yields, improve soil structure, relieve soil compaction, enhance soil oxygenation, reduce dependence on nitrogen and phosphorus inputs, promote efficient water utilization, and suppress foliage and root diseases.

It was an insightful exchange on innovation, sustainability, and the future of agricultural development, and we look forward to continued dialogue and possible collaboration in support of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ agricultural sector.
