MCN linktr.ee/MCNNY — MCN is a nonprofit that strengthens the New York City Muslim community through education, civic engagement, and youth leadership.

The Muslim Community Network (MCN) empowers the diverse New York City Muslim population by connecting communities through dialogue, education, collaboration and social action. The organization was founded in 2003 by a group of volunteers responding to the urgent needs of the community post-9/11. Over the years, MCN’s purpose has evolved into building community partnerships and encouraging communit

y activism which we achieve through our core program areas of Youth Leadership Development, Cross-Cultural and Interfaith Engagement, and Civic Engagement and Community Education. VALUES and OPERATING PRINCIPLES
Social Justice Framework – We use a social justice framework to encourage engagement in addressing the root causes of inequality. Inclusion, Unity, and Diversity – We work with all of New York’s diverse Muslim and non-Muslim communities. We value diverse leadership and voices. We seek to facilitate the emergence of a Muslim identity that transcends generational, ethnic, gender, racial and class-based boundaries. Mutual Consultation – We believe in mutual consultation as a decision making process which works to build consensus and cooperation among diverse opinions, identities and experiences. Self Determination — We create spaces for all New Yorkers to engage one another and take an active role in their society. Rather than attempt to represent all Muslims or New Yorkers, we prefer to bring people to the table to represent themselves. Empowerment – We facilitate individual and community empowerment by providing spaces for reflection and consciousness-raising within the Muslim community, which develops the confidence and self-reliance necessary for the realization of power. Partnership – We value partnership as a means of effectively expanding the ways in which we can serve multiple communities through multiple methods. Creating Connections – We do not seek to reinvent the wheel, but rather to connect those with experience and expertise to audiences that can benefit from their teachings. As a community-based organization, we also play an active role in coalitions including New York Neighbors, Muslim Holidays Coalition, Prepare New York, Muslim American Civil Liberties Coalition, among many others.

Starting June 1st, new federal SNAP work requirements are now in effect and may impact thousands of New Yorkers receiving food assistance.

These changes may require some recipients to meet work, training, or volunteer requirements in order to maintain benefits, while NYC outreach efforts continue to support and reduce risk for those affected.

If you or someone you know receives SNAP, make sure to stay informed, check your notices, and access available support.

Resources are available through NYC SNAP and ACCESS HRA or email us at [email protected]

We are heartbroken and outraged by the heinous act of terror and hate that took the lives of three individuals yesterday at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire community as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.

We also ask our community to honor the courage and sacrifice of hero Amin Abdullah, who was martyred while protecting those inside the mosque. His bravery will never be forgotten.

Hate like this has no place in our countries, our communities, or our future. We must continue to stand together against Islamophobia, violence, and extremism in all its forms.

Please keep the victims and their loved ones in your prayers, and consider donating in support of Amin Abdullah’s family and legacy.

This April, MCN brought our Wellness Fair programming to the Bronx alongside incredible community advocates and partner organizations dedicated to serving local families.

Through our holistic model of care, families were able to access health resources, educational support, financial wellness services, mental health resources, childcare, translation services, and more, all under one roof.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and helped make this event possible. Community care begins with showing up for one another, and we look forward to continuing this work together.

Understanding your rights should never be out of reach. MCN’s Know Your Rights workshops equip communities with essential immigration information, clarify the difference between NYPD and ICE, and provide practical guidance for safe interactions. We also connect participants to trusted resources and tailor sessions to meet community needs.

For businesses and property owners, storm prep isn’t optional. Keeping sidewalks and gutters clear isn’t just about cleanliness, it’s a legal responsibility that helps prevent flooding on your block.

You’re not required to clear street catch basins, but a blocked grate can flood your business, your customers’ cars, and your entrance. If you can safely clear debris, it makes a difference.

Small actions ahead of a storm protect your space, your neighbors, and your community.
