This May, we honor our roots and the unbreakable spirit of the Haitian people. As we reflect on this year’s theme—'The Haitian Story: A Legacy of Courage, A Future of Possibilities'—I am reminded of the strength that defines our neighborhoods in Flatbush, East Flatbush, and beyond.

Haiti’s history as the world’s first free Black republic is a beacon of hope and resilience for us all. Our culture—from our music and art to our food and deep community bonds—is a vital part of what makes New York so strong.

Let’s us, this month celebrate our heritage with pride and continue building a bright future for the next generation.
