In honor of Child Care Educator Appreciation Month, our Chair & Executive Director Sarah Sayeed visited Elohim Daycare in the Bronx. We applaud and celebrate the staff at Elohim for the dedication, love and care you provide to Bronx children and their families!

This month’s designation is also a reminder that child care educators should not only be recognized for their essential work, but centered as voices and decision makers in shaping the policies and programs that support NYC families. The city is stronger because of the dedication, compassion, and leadership child care educators bring to their communities this and every month. 💛

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re excited to highlight Michael Lee, President of the Museum of Chinese in America, for this month’s Civic Leader Spotlight!

A native New Yorker, Michael has spent his career supporting nonprofit organizations, expanding educational opportunities for underserved Asian youth, and strengthening communities across the city. Beyond his professional work, he also serves on multiple nonprofit boards and teaches business, martial arts, and lion dance in Brooklyn.

We’re proud to highlight leaders like Michael who help build a more connected and engaged New York City.

Building civic power starts with making every language community feel heard, informed, and included.

Yesterday, our Voter Language Assistance (VLA) Program hosted “Building Civic Power Across Languages,” a convening that brought together community members, civic leaders, local media, and advocates for an afternoon of conversation and collaboration centered on language access and civic life in NYC.

Through panels on civic power, voter protections, voter education, outreach, and advocacy, speakers from government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations shared strategies for expanding access and strengthening engagement across language communities. Small group discussions also created space for attendees to reflect on the barriers their communities face to voting and civic participation — and the collective work needed to address them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to these important conversations. Visit on.nyc.gov/vla to learn more about the CEC’s language access efforts and the VLA Program 🔗

We're excited to share that our Voter Language Assistance Program's poll site interpretation services are expanding from 12 to 14 languages!

At our April 30 Commissioners' Meeting, Commissioners passed a resolution to add Albanian and Greek — helping us better support more New Yorkers at the polls.

Language access is essential to an inclusive democracy, and we're proud to continue expanding resources that help voters participate confidently and fully.
