Permanent Mission of Namibia to the UN-NY

On 19 August 2026, the Permanent Mission paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed UN Special Advisor for Africa, Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa.

HE Penda Naanda, Permanent Representative, congratulated the Special Advisor on her appointment, and pledged Namibia’s support to her Office.

The two principals noted the need for collective action at all levels to support Africa’s development, based on her priorities, in particular Agenda 2063.

Amb. Naanda was accompanied by Mr. AvShalom Nghifitikeko, Deputy Permanent Representative, and Ms. Annie Naanda, First Secretary.

On Thursday, 23 July 2026, Amb. Penda Naanda; Permanent Representative, accompanied by Mr. AvShalom Nghifitikeko; Deputy Permanent Representative and Ms. Lwaba Jario, Investment and Economic Attache, met with Ms. Emma Wade-Smith, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Government Affairs and Industry Relations, and Mr. Zach Helzer, Vice President of Government Affairs and Industry Relations for North America, of the De Beers Group.

The Mission received a briefing on De Beers work in the United States, particularly their engagement in Washington to support, shape, and grow the natural diamond market, which aligns closely with Namibia's interests.

On 14 July 2026, Amb.Penda Naanda, met with Dr. Nadi Albino Acting CEO of Generation, UNICEF and Dr. Marie-Jeanne Ndimbira-Rosner, CEO of Twamanguluka and Ms. Elizabeth Baskerville , Education Specialist to introduce Twamanguluka and discussed a youth empowerment initiative in the agriculture sector.

On 10 July, Namibia addressed the UN Security Council Session on “Honouring the Promise of International Law to survivors of conflict-related sexual violence”. Namibia called for accountability and the full implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in line with UNSC Resolution 1325.
