At CBN, we’re grateful for the people whose kindness, dedication, and generosity help strengthen our community every day.

This week’s Above and Beyond spotlight is on Debra Schwartz, whose first volunteer experience with CBN began last Christmas when she delivered meals to homebound older adults. Inspired by the warmth of the members and the energy of the center, Deb kept coming back, first as a volunteer and eventually as CBN’s Volunteer Coordinator.

Today, Deb brings volunteers together to help serve meals, lead activities, and make a difference in the lives of older adults. For Deb, it’s about “contribution to my neighborhood and my neighbors, and a sense of community.”

Thank you, Deb, for showing us how one simple act of giving can grow into something truly meaningful. 🧡

Members of our Roosevelt Island Older Adult Center gathered for a special cooking demonstration with Soonju, exploring the vibrant flavors and traditions of Korean cuisine. Our Executive Director, Joy Salvador, also joined the group to share in the experience. 🍲

The hands-on demonstration sparked curiosity and appreciation for Korean culture through food, with participants gathering to watch, learn, and discover new flavors.

The afternoon was full of smiles, connection, and a shared appreciation for food, culture, and community. 🥘✨
