New Washington Fire Department is honored to have received a $23,602 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The funds have been put directly towards the purchase of new Elkhart fire nozzles and ground monitors, replacing aging equipment and fulfilling a critical need within our department. The new appliances will outfit each frontline apparatus. Thank you to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Louisville, Michael Foley with Macqueen and the generous donors who made this possible. This generous equipment grant has not only helped this agency, but has helped other departments by allowing us to donate the older equipment to those in need.

On the evening of 9/22 New Washington and Charlestown Fire Departments responded to a residence on Graebe Rd for a report of a structure fire. Units on scene found a well involved fire in the crawlspace that had extended into the wall and attic space. Firefighters were able to extinguish it by access from the first floor, sparing the majority of the home from damage. For those who are unaware, the two agencies have entered into an automatic aid agreement approximately two years ago that allows both departments to be dispatched simultaneously and put more equipment and firefighters on a scene faster. Automatic aid is a winning strategy that yields improved results on a regular basis.

Recently, local agencies participated in a joint rope rescue operations and technician course in order to better serve the residents of Clark County. Students and instructors worked over the course of two months in order to hone skills in high and low angle environments. We are proud to have been able to participate in such an oportune course alongside other local departments. Thank you to Evan Bower with LastGen Consulting Group for leading the class.

Thank you Anheuser-Busch and National Volunteer Fire Council for the generous donation of emergency drinking water, and to North Vernon Beverage Co for delivering it to NWFD Headquarters. This water will help keep our firefighters hydrated during wildfires and extended responses in extreme heat.

The donation is provided through Anheuser-Busch’s Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters program, which supports volunteer departments with critical hydration resources during wildfire season. Learn more at www.nvfc.org/water.

2352 cans of water were split with our closest partner, Charlestown Fire Department. Charlestown and New Washington have worked closely together for decades, and will both benefit greatly from this donation.

Recently, New Washington Fire Department was awarded an equipment grant from the Greater North Clark Health Foundation. GNCHF provides funding through a grant program to northern Clark County non profit organizations. NWFD utilized the funding to purchase a battery operated ventilation fan in order to phase out all of our existing gasoline powered fans. Pictured are the members of today’s on-duty crew with GNCHF representative Lee Thomas. We are extremely grateful to be able to utilize this great local resource and hope to be able to partner with them in the future.

Edit: This grant has also allowed the older, yet still usable, fans to be donated to other departments in need of such things.
