Among the many local stories preserved in our museum, Rosa Lee Taylor’s 1930s autograph book holds a special place. Turn through its worn pages, and you'll find an intimate portrait of youth and community—filled with the personal prose of her close friends and Chisholm classmates.

Notable among them is a page penned by Moses Meeks, whose words offer a vivid glimpse into the warmth and camaraderie shared by students of that era.

Keepsakes like Rosa's carry on a tradition nearly five centuries old. Autograph collecting originated in the 1500s as the album amicorum, used by European travelers and scholars to collect signatures from influential mentors. By the late Victorian period and through the 1930s, compact autograph albums had evolved into an essential rite of passage for young people. Friends used these books to share favorite verses, offer advice, and express earnest hopes for the future—creating precious micro-archives that preserve community history one inscription at a time.
