This afternoon, our crew from Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet responded to a search and rescue case involving two teenagers after their 14-foot jon boat capsized, pushing them approximately 10 miles offshore.

A strong cold front had moved through the area, bringing rapidly deteriorating conditions and wind gusts nearing 50 mph.

Thankfully, our crew was able to locate them and return them safely to awaiting crews from City of New Smyrna Beach Fire Department for treatment of mild hypothermia.

This case is an important reminder to everyone heading out on the water:

🌊 Always file a float plan — let someone know where you’re going, who’s with you, and when you plan to return.

🌬️ Check the weather forecast before and during your trip — conditions can change quickly, especially after a front passes.

🛥️ Ensure your vessel is appropriate for the conditions and you have the required safety equipment on board.

Preparation saves lives. Before you go, take a few extra minutes to plan ahead — it can make all the difference.

Team work makes the dream work. 🚁

Earlier this week we had the opportunity to conduct training with U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah. Conducting these hoist operations keeps us and the helicopter crews proficient and ready to respond to calls for assistance.

⭐️ ⚓️ ⭐️ Big Congratulations to Master Chief Allen Bozeman! ⭐️ ⚓️ ⭐️

This past Friday, we gathered at the iconic Ponce Inlet Lighthouse to celebrate a monumental achievement. Allen Bozeman, our Officer In Charge, has officially advanced to the rank of Master Chief Boatswain's Mate – a true testament to his dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving our nation.

From early mornings to late nights, Master Chief has always embodied the Coast Guard’s core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty. This advancement is not just a rank; it’s a recognition of years of hard work, sacrifice, and exemplary service.

Standing beneath the beacon of the lighthouse – a symbol of guidance and steadfastness – couldn’t have been more fitting. We are also deeply grateful to the many partner agencies who joined us today to celebrate this special moment. Your presence underscores the unity and collaboration that make achievements like this even more meaningful.

Please join us in celebrating Master Chief Allen Bozeman’s incredible accomplishment!

Accomplishment recognition doesn’t end once you leave Station Ponce! BM2 Corey Walsh was active duty at Station Ponce between 2016-2024, as well as signing on to the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve after his active duty enlistment had ended. But now Corey has taken another step in personal development. We would like to congratulate him for completing the 8 month MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife academy and has now graduated as an FWC officer. Corey was the class leader of Academy 48 and he will be assigned to Palm Beach county protecting our waterways in south Florida. Bravo Zulu and a job well done!
