SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING BOATERS

The New Smyrna Beach Police Department Marine Unit is actively assisting in the search for two missing boaters in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The two individuals were last seen and heard from at approximately 6 a.m. on June 8th after departing from Lake Helen. Their vehicle and boat trailer were located at the Swoop Boat Ramp in New Smyrna Beach.

The boaters reportedly planned to fish approximately 30 miles offshore; however, it is currently unknown how far they ultimately traveled.

The boaters are believed to be aboard a white, 25 foot Carolina Classic vessel. A picture of the exact boat is included in this post.

We will provide updates as additional information becomes available. If anyone has any information on the possible whereabouts of the missing boaters, please call 911.

Early this morning, after fleeing from multiple law enforcement agencies, Erich Gaitings of Apopka, FL, made his way into Port Orange, where officers were ready to welcome him. Stop sticks flattened his tires, a Volusia Sheriff's Office PIT maneuver ended the pursuit, and multiple units made sure there were no more getaway attempts. Great coordination by all involved!

This afternoon, officers attempted to stop an electric dirt bike operator who was observed riding approximately 50 mph on the sidewalk near Luna Bella Lane and Airport Road, in violation of Florida law. These electric dirt bikes are also known as e-motos or electric motorcycles.

The rider failed to stop and fled from officers, reaching speeds exceeding 70 mph. During the incident, the rider utilized golf cart paths and wooded trails in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

The electric dirt bike was later located abandoned in a wooded area, and the rider was not located. The bike was seized and the investigation remains ongoing.

If you have any information regarding this incident or can help identify the rider, please contact Officer Landon Jones at [email protected] and reference case #260500349.

During a hearing on Wednesday, defendant Eric Bartolozzi entered a no contest plea to Misappropriation Construction Funds $1,000 to $100,000 and was sentenced to four years of probation. Special conditions include $223,348.91 in restitution, which is the total amount of funds he misappropriated from the 32 victims who came forward and cooperated with the investigation. Checks have been made out to these victims and are being picked up this week.

Between 2022 and 2024, Serene Pavers and Stonescaping Inc. of New Smyrna Beach abandoned several paving projects in Volusia County.

Bartolozzi, the owner of the company, transferred customer deposits and payments from the business bank account into his personal bank account. Instead of using the funds to purchase materials and complete projects, he used them for personal expenses, including purchasing new pickup trucks for himself and his girlfriend.
