***UPDATE*** (I needed to add media to update the post and why I just did a picture of the park)
All the comments and shares on this post have made an impact. The number of kids causing problems at the park has decreased greatly, and hopefully it can return to being a safe and enjoyable space for the whole community.
We will continue to monitor the situation and address inappropriate behavior when it happens. If issues continue, please report destructive or disrespectful behavior so it can be handled appropriately.
The 4th and 5th grade classes were also spoken to directly, which seems to have made a positive impact. Thank you, Mrs. G!
***ORIGINAL POST***
Unfortunately, due to ongoing vandalism and misuse at the Main Street Park, the water fountain has been shut off effective Sunday May 10.
Over the past few weeks, there has been increasing damage to park property, including individuals breaking concrete and removing rocks from the historic bandstand structure. Sunday, park staff also cleaned up numerous dog waste bags that had been filled at the fountain and used as water balloons, along with a significant amount of litter left throughout the park area.
We are very happy to see so many children and families enjoying the park, and we want the park to remain a fun and safe place for everyone. However, continued vandalism and disrespect for public property cannot be ignored.
We ask all parents and guardians to please take a moment to speak with their children about proper park etiquette, respect for public spaces, and cleaning up after themselves.
If vandalism and destruction continue, further action may be taken to identify those responsible and contact parents or guardians directly.
We hope the fountain can be turned back on soon, but that will depend on whether the misuse and damage stop.
Thank you to everyone who helps keep our parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for the entire community.
