❤️ This Is What Community Looks Like

We want to give a special thank-you to Rachel Zrihen and her husband, Rafi, for helping us build another bridge into our surrounding communities.

Rachel reached out to Chabad of Anthem & North Valley and shared information about the New River Kiwanis Senior Center. We were so grateful to see our center included in their community newsletter. That may seem like a small thing, but to us, it matters.

Our community is made up of people from different neighborhoods, cultures, backgrounds, and faiths. We want everyone to know there is a place for them here.

Our mission really comes down to two important things:

❤️ First, helping feed those who are hungry.
❤️ Second, helping fight isolation by giving people a place to belong, connect, laugh, participate, and be part of a community.

We are thankful for the churches, faith communities, local businesses, organizations, and individuals who help us spread the word. Every newsletter mention, flyer displayed, post shared, or conversation could reach someone who didn’t know we were here—and sometimes one connection is all it takes.

Rachel and Rafi, thank you for helping us reach a little farther. And thank you to Chabad of Anthem & North Valley for including the New River Kiwanis Senior Center in your newsletter. We are honored and grateful. ❤️

We’re ready for another great Wednesday!

☕ 9:00 AM — Coffee & Conversation
💪 9:30 AM — High-Impact Chair Exercise
🌿 10:30 AM — Tai Chi
🍽️ 12:30 PM — Lunch

But first… we need to share some pictures from yesterday’s Chili Cook-Off! 🌶️🏆 What a great day! Good food, a little friendly competition, and a whole lot of laughter. This really is where we gather. ❤️

📋 Reservations for next week’s lunches are going in this morning, so make sure we have yours!

And don’t forget what’s coming up:

🎱 THURSDAY — BINGO!

🍳 FRIDAY — BISCUITS & GRAVY!
Come hungry from 6:00–9:00 AM. Grab some breakfast, have a cup of coffee, and start your Friday with us!

🍂 And apparently the temperature dropping a few degrees means some of us are ready to pull out the sweaters, boots, pumpkins, and everything fall. 😂 We’re trying to hold off on the pumpkins around here…but it’s getting difficult!

☕🎃 And we have a mission for you: If anybody finds actual pumpkin coffee—not creamer, the coffee—bring some in! We need to know if this magical thing exists.

🌶️🏆 OUR CHILI COOK-OFF WAS A SUCCESS! 🏆🌶️

What a GREAT day at the New River Kiwanis Senior Center! There was a little friendly competition, lots of laughs, some seriously good chili, and most importantly—a whole bunch of people just enjoying each other. ❤️

A HUGE thank-you to all of our chili cooks, our judges, and Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical for coming out and making the day so much fun! 🚒🌶️

And we have some special shout-outs!

🚜 Tractor Dude — thank you for jumping in as one of our judges! We loved having you there and appreciate you being part of our day.

❤️ Lisa — thank you for coming all the way from Cave Creek to cook with us! Lisa’s family owns Big Girls Greasy Eats, and we loved having her join our little competition and bring some Cave Creek flavor to New River!

🌻 Robin — one of our wonderful Hearts of New River vendors and seriously one of the sweetest people you’ll meet! She brought a DELICIOUS chili to compete, too. Robin, thank you for always showing up with that sweet spirit of yours—and apparently some pretty good chili skills too! 🌶️❤️

We also got to honor two very special people.

❤️ Martin — you’ve become like a big brother around here. Painting, toilets, landscaping, moving things, helping put up our flagpole—you name it, Martin has probably helped us with it. You have truly been a Godsend to our center, and we sure love you!

🌻 And our September Senior of the Month, Trudy! This chick jumps in wherever she sees a need, and today she swooped in with some REALLY yummy cheese cookies!

Sis…we’re gonna need that recipe! 😂

And everybody left with a New River Senior Center bowl cozy, thanks to our amazing Mike & Patti! ❤️

Speaking of Mike & Patti and Robin—you’ll be able to see them and so many of our other vendors at:

He has given his time, his muscles, and his heart to this place, and today we get to celebrate a truly great guy. ❤️

🌻 AND WE’RE HONORING TRUDY — OUR SENIOR OF THE MONTH!
Trudy is that gal who sees something that needs to be done and jumps right in. She helps wherever she can, makes herself part of what’s happening, and brings that wonderful community spirit we love around here.
