The New Richmond Fire & EMS Department was back on the Ohio River today, Sunday, June 7, to continue search operations for the missing kayaker involved in Thursday afternoon’s incident.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., a body was located near Mile Marker 449.1. At that time, M36, BO36, E36, and Chief 36 were dispatched to the 800 block of Washington Street. Command was established, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Clermont County Coroner’s Office, and the U.S. Coast Guard were notified. The scene and recovery efforts were subsequently turned over to ODNR.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the following agencies and organizations that assisted throughout this search and recovery operation:

• Code 3 Search and Rescue
• Cincinnati Search and Recovery
• Task Force One
• Clermont County Sheriff’s Office
• New Richmond Police Department
• Clermont County Communications Center
• Bethel-Tate Fire Department
• Anderson Township Fire & Rescue
• Hamilton County Police Association
• Boone County Water Rescue
• Pierce Township Fire Department

Incidents like these are never easy for the families and friends involved. They are also difficult for the first responders who dedicate countless hours to these operations. We would like to thank our paid-per-call members who spent numerous hours away from their own families to assist in this search and recovery effort.

Lastly, we want to extend a very special thank you to The Green Kayak. Becca and Steve made sure responders had plenty of food and drinks throughout the operation. Your generosity, support, and willingness to help whenever needed truly embody what it means to be a community. Thank you not only for your assistance during this incident, but for the continued support you provide to our department and the village as a whole.

Please keep the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Saturday June 6, 2026 Update

This morning, crews will be returning to the Ohio River to continue recovery operations between Mile Markers 446 and 461. We ask all boaters and river users to please use caution and remain aware of emergency vessels operating in the area.

When approaching emergency vessels, please slow to idle speed and create a no-wake zone. Excessive wake can interfere with recovery operations and create hazards for personnel working on and in the water.

Please be advised that the New Richmond Boat Ramp located at Augusta Street will be closed during search operations. We ask that boaters use alternate launch locations and avoid the search area whenever possible.

Despite extensive search efforts, the individual has not yet been located. Our operations remain focused on recovery efforts.

We would like to thank all responding agencies for their continued assistance and the public for their cooperation and support. Please continue to keep the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Today our crew assisted with a small but meaningful rescue after locating a fawn trapped in a catch basin. Crews were able to safely remove the animal and release it back to a nearby natural area.

While not every call involves fire or emergency medical care, we’re always ready to respond when assistance is needed—no matter how big or small the situation may be.

Great teamwork by all involved in ensuring a safe outcome for the animal.

Yesterday afternoon and evening proved once again why we are so grateful for the dedication of our Paid-Per-Call personnel, part-time staff, and volunteers.

At 4:50 PM, Medic 36 was dispatched for a fall. Just two minutes later, at 4:52 PM, Quint 36 and Engine 36 were dispatched to assist with a structure fire in Monroe Township. While crews were still operating at the fire scene, Medic 36 was dispatched for a heart-related emergency at 7:37 PM, followed by Engine 236 responding to an open burn investigation at 8:07 PM.

When multiple incidents occur at the same time, it takes a team effort to ensure our community continues to receive the highest level of service. We are incredibly thankful for the men and women who willingly step away from their families, jobs, and personal time to answer the call when needed.

Thank you to our Paid-Per-Call members, part-time personnel, and volunteers for your commitment, dedication, and service to the residents and visitors of our community. Your willingness to serve does not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to Our Own!

A huge congratulations to FF/Medic Samantha Lucas and FF/Medic Lance Fujitani on successfully passing the Ohio Fire Safety Inspector state exam!

This is a major accomplishment that reflects their hard work, dedication, and commitment to both their craft and the safety of our community. Adding Fire Safety Inspector certification to their already impressive credentials as Firefighters and Paramedics makes them even greater assets to the New Richmond Fire & EMS Department and the residents we serve.

We are incredibly proud of you both!
