Yesterday, we took over the Oakwood Park playground for our "Ice Pops with Cops" event, and it was an absolute blast. Huge thanks to the New Providence Recreation Department for funding the popsicles ... and the brain freezes! 🍧

We loved escaping the heat with the kids and letting our future officers claim the front seat, thankfully, none of them could actually reach the gas pedal yet.

The new school year is officially underway! We want to introduce the School Resource Officers (SROs) dedicated to keeping our local schools safe.

Our SROs are more than just a police presence. They are here to build meaningful relationships with students and staff, mentor our youth, and promote a safe, positive learning environment every single day.

A big New Providence welcome to SRO Mario Suarez, who is new to our community this year at Salt Brook School! SRO Suarez brings an incredible wealth of experience, starting his career with the Rutgers Campus Police, followed by the Newark Police Department, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. He also spent two years assigned to the U.S. Marshals, and after retiring, served as an SRO in Hackensack for 5 years. We are incredibly lucky to have him on our team!

Reminder! Academy Street is one-way, running north to south (Elkwood Ave to Springfield Ave). Turning onto Academy Street from Springfield Avenue is prohibited.

If you need to access any Borough facility, you must access from Elkwood Avenue, using Passaic Street or Jane Road.

***TRAFFIC ALERT: ACADEMY STREET BECOMES ONE-WAY SEPTEMBER 1***

Academy Street will become ONE-WAY SOUTHBOUND, from Elkwood Av to Springfield Av beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The change is being made in connection with the construction of the Borough’s new Police Building. During construction, the New Providence Police Department is operating from its temporary location at 1 Academy Street.

The one-way traffic pattern will help provide a safer and more orderly flow of traffic around the temporary Police Department facility.

Please remember:

➡️ Academy Street will be SOUTHBOUND ONLY
📅 Effective September 1, 2026
🚗 Please follow all posted signs and use caution while traveling through the area.

The Borough appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation during construction of the new Police Building.
