We have received many calls regarding this scam as well. Please be aware:

SCAM ALERT:

We’re seeing an increase in scam calls involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers. The latest version of this scam can be especially concerning: scammers are using partial names of actual deputies from the Sheriff’s Office to make their story sound legitimate. They often claim you missed Jury duty or court for a variety of stories.

The caller may tell you that you have an active arrest warrant and that you need to “take care of it” immediately to avoid being arrested. They may sound professional, provide convincing details, and pressure you to act before you have time to think.

1. STOP.
2. Take a breath.
3. Hang up.
4. Verify.

REMEMBER:
The Sheriff’s Office will NOT call you demanding payment to clear an arrest warrant.

We will not ask you to purchase gift cards, send cryptocurrency, wire money, or provide financial information over the phone to avoid arrest.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly using 330.339.2000 — not a number provided by the caller.

Scammers are becoming increasingly creative. They may know your name, use the name of a real deputy, or have other information about you. That does not mean the call is legitimate.

Update: He has been safely located!

We are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 11 year old Bentley Davidson. He was last seen walking from the Middle School northbound on 4th St NW around school dismissal time wearing the same outfit as pictured below. If you see him, please call NPPD at 330-343-4488.

For those looking to plan ahead, Trick or Treat night in New Philadelphia will be held on Saturday, October 31st from 6-8 p.m.

for school buses! Stay alert and know when to stop: On a two or three lane road - drivers on BOTH SIDES of the road must stop when a bus is dropping off or picking up students. On roads with four or more lanes – drivers traveling the opposite direction of the bus DO NOT have to stop.
