From Natahsa Yonley, Leadership Tusc Alum

The Tuscarawas County Health Department is seeking your assistance with an important community health initiative. As part of the requirements of our To***co Prevention and Cessation Grant, we are conducting the 2026 Community To***co Survey. This anonymous survey helps us better understand community opinions regarding to***co use and informs future to***co prevention and cessation efforts throughout Tuscarawas County.

The survey is open to Tuscarawas County residents age 18 and older. Once the survey has been completed, individuals can enter a drawing for a $50 gas card by completing the optional entry – this is included once you click on the ‘submit’ button. To meet our grant requirements, we must collect 250 completed surveys by June 30.

To date, we have received approximately 150 responses, and we are asking for your help in reaching the remaining residents needed.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would:
• Take the survey yourself if you are eligible.
• Share the survey link with colleagues, friends, and family members.

Your support will help ensure that local public health programs are informed by community input and that Tuscarawas County continues to receive funding for to***co prevention and cessation activities.

Leadership Tuscarawas – April 14, 2026 Class Recap

The April 14, 2026 Leadership Tuscarawas class was held at Buckeye Career Center. Many thanks to Frank Polen and Bob Alsept for their warm hospitality. We met in the Joe Carlisle Café, an ideal venue for our session.

Food and beverage service was outstanding. Buckeye’s culinary students prepared and served an exceptional lunch featuring braised beef with a signature sauce, salad, and a homemade bakery dessert. Special thanks to the chef and students for such a memorable experience.

The day began with a thoughtful presentation by Geronimo Ramirez, Executive Director of Comunidad SOL, with interpretation provided by Sarah King. Geronimo shared valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing Latino members of our community. Topics included education, family values, economic conditions, and legal issues such as immigration—all of which significantly impact Tuscarawas County’s Guatemalan community.

Dr. Sarah Andreas followed with an engaging session on Ethics and Leadership, drawing on concepts from a Harvard Business Review article. This important topic resonated across both personal and professional contexts.

We then held our annual pre-graduation project practice presentations in preparation for the May 12 ceremony. As always, the depth, creativity, and impact of the seven team projects were truly impressive.

Following lunch, participants toured Buckeye Career Center. Class members were highly impressed with the breadth of programming, quality of facilities, and the commitment of Buckeye’s staff, administrators, and faculty. The center exemplifies an entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit. From the Kent State Tuscarawas perspective, we value our strong partnership with Buckeye and the many opportunities it provides to leverage shared resources and expertise.

The day concluded with an educational panel discussion moderated by Paul Dykshoorn, Director of Engineering Technologies at Kent State Tuscarawas. Panelists included Bob Alsept, Superintendent of Buckeye Career Center; Brad Bielski, Dean and Chief Administrative Officer at Kent State Tuscarawas; Lori Robson, Executive Director of ECO-ECS; Karie McCrate, Superintendent of Dover City Schools; and Amy Wentworth, Superintendent of New Philadelphia City Schools.

All in all, it was another outstanding Leadership Tuscarawas professional development day!
