I remember every detail of my life from that day, who called me at work and said “better turn on your tv”, watching the tv as a plane hit the pentagon and hearing a plane crashed in Somerset County a few miles from my childhood home & family, trying to call them to check on them and not being able to get through, it was a feeling like nothing I had ever experienced, That evening gathering with family and first responder friends glueing ourselves to the TV. Crying & praying for our brothers and sisters in the fire service & all those lost and their families, knowing in our hearts if we were needed we would go. The thing that sticks out the most about that day and days after was how people treated each other with love and respect. A unity like I had never witnessed. It is so sad that it took something as horrific as that day to bring people - families, friends and strangers together. Actually respecting each other and being nice. Sad that it didn’t last long. People forgot and went on doing/being like they were prior to 9/11. Wouldn’t it be a better world and a great tribute to those lost if people would once again be united and respect each other without having a tragedy “make” us remember how we should treat others…….. may all those lost rest peacefully and May all their families know we will never forget.

Please take a moment to review some basics of high wind preparation, given that York County is under a wind advisory from noon today until 2 am Wednesday:

-- Trim tree branches away from your house and power lines.
-- Secure loose gutters and shutters.
-- Identify an interior room of your house, such as a basement or interior bathroom, that you can take shelter in during high wind warnings.
-- If you live in a mobile home, identify a sturdy building you can go to if NWS issues a high wind or severe thunderstorm warning.
-- Charge batteries of all essential items such as cell phones and booster packs, weather radios and power tools such as a reciprocating saw, which you might need to clear debris.
-- Update your emergency kit and be sure to include enough food and water to last for 3 days for each person in your home.
-- Make a list of items outside your home you will need to tie down or put away so that they don't blow away or fly through a window. When NWS issues a high wind or severe thunderstorm watch, immediately secure these items to avoid damage or injury once the wind starts picking up.
