Several members of the New Paltz Police Department were recognized last night at the 2026 Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County Awards Dinner. Chief Sutton attended the event in his role as a member of the Association’s Executive Board and joined law enforcement leaders from across the county in recognizing this year’s award recipients.

Officer Tyler White received recognition for his role in the successful resolution of a critical incident in the Town of Gardiner. Following several hours of negotiations, a man experiencing a mental health crisis who had fired multiple rounds at responding officers surrendered peacefully. No injuries were reported.

Detective Sergeant Halstead, Detective Kraus, and Officer Fazio received the Meritorious Team Investigation Award for their work on a fatal motor vehicle crash investigation involving the death of a four-month-old infant. Their investigation resulted in the successful prosecution of the driver. The award was also presented to Investigator Eric Paulding of the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.

We congratulate all of this year’s award recipients. We are proud to see members of our department recognized for the important work they do in service to our community.

Today, members of the New Paltz Police Department attended the Ulster County Police Chiefs Association Line of Duty Death Ceremony alongside Chief Sutton and Detective Sergeant Halstead.

The ceremony also marked an important milestone for Sergeant Pece, Officer Stenta, and Officer Farrow, who recently completed Honor Guard training hosted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. Following the completion of their training, today’s ceremony served as an opportunity for them to carry out Honor Guard responsibilities as part of the event.

The New Paltz Police Department appreciates the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by all members involved throughout the ceremony.

We were out today at the PAWS & Play Community Day hosted by Duzine Elementary 🐾 and we were all PAWS in!

Our Community Policing Unit was in the mix with patrol vehicles, ATV and bicycle patrol officers. We also had Car Seat Technicians available to check child passenger seats for proper installation. Members shared child ID kits and brochures on public safety community resources.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and what better way to close it out than right here with our neighbors. We were proud to hand out our “Occupant with Autism, New Paltz Police Supporter” stickers, which can be placed on your vehicle to alert officers that a passenger with autism may be present.

Thank you to Duzine Elementary for such a fun evening!
