Joseph Campbell Mythological Roundtable

Joseph Campbell Mythological Roundtable Hello and welcome to the page for the Joseph Campbell Mythological Roundtable at The Center for Symbolic Studies in New Paltz, New York.

This is a group that meets once a month to discuss mythology, folklore, and the uses of archetype. Each month we’ll focus on a specific topic that bears relevance to our individual lives and interests, illuminating new perspectives, interconnections, and ways of constructing meaning from these rich subjects. Discussions will be participant-driven and emphasize dialogue, playfulness, and curiosity

in a supportive environment. No formal membership is required (meaning members need not be present for each roundtable), and we encourage individuals with all levels of interest and familiarity with the topics to join in. Stay tuned for updates about monthly dates, topics, and community announcements as we embark on this journey together.

Hey, all!
I've noticed this page getting more attention recently. That's awesome, but a lot has changed since I set it up a while back. Henry Kramer and I were organizing the Joseph Campbell Mythological Roundtable at the Center for Symbolic Studies in Rosendale, New York. Life took us in other directions, and now the Roundtable at CSS is being run by Reverend Andrew Cort, a wonderful religious studies scholar.
Henry and I independently continue to work on subjects related to mythology, storytelling, archetypal work, Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung. I hope we can get some of the fruits of our recent labor posted up here soon, although I can't make announcements about the Roundtable at CSS anymore.
Since this page continues to garner attention -- and we have the fabulous name facebook.com/josephcampbellgroup -- I'd definitely like to encourage this as a space for inquiry and discussion related to all things Joseph Campbell/hero's journey/mythology, etc. I'm aware of several resources related to these matters, so I'll chime in when I can :)
Okay, I think that's it for now. Have a joyous solstice and holiday season, everyone! :D

in the mean time, I highly recommend you see this film if you can -- (just released in theaters ) -- it's a retelling of a Japanese folktale in lovely hand-drawn animation.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_The_Princess_Kaguya_(film)

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari?) is a 2013 Japanese animated film produced by Studio Ghibli, and directed and co-written by Isao Takahata, based on the folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.[3][4] This is Takahata's fifth film for Studio Ghibli, and his first in…

Now: to find a time!
We ran the last one on a Saturday afternoon, does that work for everyone? I'm hoping to have the next formalized and event page up in a few days.

p.s. your lovely hosts are living/studying/working in New Zealand and New Jersey at present, so please excuse these long breaks between events -- with luck and planning we're going to fine-tune our calendar for greater regularity in 2015 :)

Salutations, all! I just posted a rather long-ish comment by way of apology and explanation for the lack of a July roundtable--but mostly it was an invitation for suggestions, commentary and curiosities with regards to the once and future Roundtable. I'd also encourage you all to take a look at the history and, er, official status of this group. There's quite a heritage:

(& yes, we have charter status!)

Stay tuned for an announcement regarding the date and theme of our next event! Enjoy the light and sweetness of the deep summer ~ hopefully I'll see some of you soon!

Hey guys! WHOA Henry and I have been busy (it's a jam-packed time for students...and people who love spring weather) but we are planning the coolest-ever yet roundtable for this month. Our topic is NATURE MYTHOLOGY~our focus is on how we can relate myth, storytelling, and narrative psychology to our relationship with nature. Henry's going to be bringing in some research he's been doing on how mythologies are rooted in natural cycles of the Earth. It's going to be a blast. It's also Henry's last roundtable for a while as he's off to do scholarly work in New Zealand starting next month! Keep your eyes open for more announcements and some rad flyers around the area...
