Notice: Milling & Paving Schedule: North Chestnut St. & Main St. Intersection

The Village of New Paltz would like to alert residents to upcoming milling and paving work on North Chestnut Street and the Main Street intersection.

Tuesday, 5/12: Milling on North Chestnut from Sunset Ridge Road moving south with single-lane traffic control.
Wednesday, 5/13: Milling at the Main Street intersection with North & South Chestnut. Detour plan in effect.
Thursday, 5/14: Paving at the Main Street intersection with the same detour plan in effect.
Friday, 5/15: Paving on North Chestnut from Stewart’s Gas Station to Sunset Ridge Road with single-lane traffic control.

Please expect delays, follow posted signage, and use caution in work zones.

A section of the Rail Trail between Water Street and Plains Road will be temporarily closed from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the removal of a tree.

VILLAGE OF NEW PALTZ SPRING CLEAN UP

The Village of New Paltz will hold its annual Spring Cleanup from April 6, 2026 through April 17, 2026.

Collection for residents who live on streets north of Main Street will begin on April 6, 2026 and end on April 10, 2026. Collection for residents who live on streets south of Main Street will begin on April 13, 2026 and end on April 17, 2026.

Village trucks will pick up bagged yard waste in biodegradable bags ONLY and brush, wood, no more than 4 tires per household, batteries, small appliances, metal, 2 mattresses per residence and furniture.

Please do NOT place items in the street.

The Village will NOT pick up any closed paint cans, tar buckets, closed metal or plastic containers containing any liquids, electronics or any household trash/ garbage.

❄️More snow is on the way tomorrow (Sunday 2/22) morning, with the worst of it occurring Sunday evening through the night ❄️ Please remember to remove all vehicles and trash bins from Village streets — it’s on all of us to help our amazing Department of Public Works team clear our roadways. 🚗Let’s aim for zero cars towed 🚙

❄️For those with sidewalks in front of your property, the Village ordinance requires clearing of them no later than 24 hours after the last flakes fall.

Below are the specifics in Village code. ☃️

Sidewalks: § 175-11: Removal of snow and ice required.

Excerpted below:

A.

The owner or occupant of any real property, whether vacant or improved by any buildings, abutting any sidewalk in the Village of New Paltz shall keep such sidewalk free and clear of snow and ice at all times.

B.

Within 24 hours after cessation of every fall of snow or the formation of any ice on the sidewalk abutting the premises, the owner or occupant shall remove or cause the same to be removed or cleared entirely from the said sidewalk to a minimum width of 30 inches. If the snow or ice shall be frozen so hard that it cannot practicably be removed, the owner or occupant shall, within the time above specified, cause the sidewalk to be covered and strewn with salt, ashes, sand or other dissolving or disintegrating material and shall, as soon thereafter as the weather will permit, thoroughly clean the sidewalk and remove the ice and snow therefrom.

Vehicles: § 198-15Parking prohibited during emergencies.

Snowfall conditions.

(a)

The parking or standing of vehicles is hereby prohibited on all streets within the Village of New Paltz and on all parking lots owned, leased or maintained by the Village during any snowfall from the time the accumulation of snow reaches a level of at least two inches until the street or parking lot has been fully plowed by the Department of Public Works.

(b)

It is the responsibility of the owner or operator of any vehicle parked on a Village street or in a parking lot owned, leased or maintained by the Village to be aware of the forecast of weather conditions which may result in an accumulation of greater than two inches of snow.

(c)

The Superintendent of Public Works is hereby authorized to post temporary signs at locations along highways and parking lots throughout the Village prohibiting the parking or standing of vehicles for a designated period of time to facilitate snow removal operations.

Public Notice: Water Main Repairs
The Village of New Paltz Department of Public Works is currently repairing two water main breaks within the Village.

Repairs are taking place at the following locations:

Intersection of Main Street and Prospect Street
Intersection of Main Street and North Front Street
Residents and motorists may experience temporary traffic delays or minor service disruptions in these areas while crews complete the work.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our team works to make these necessary repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

The Department of Public Works will begin snow removal on all Village streets today, January 28, 2026, starting at 10:00 PM, and will continue until the work is completed.

Important reminders for residents:

Please do not park in areas where “No Parking” signs have been posted.
Please continue to adhere to all other posted parking regulations.
