SCTFD has recently placed new ballistic vests in service to better protect our crews while operating on emergency scenes.

The fire service continues to evolve, and so do the risks we face. Incidents involving violence are no longer rare, and ensuring our personnel have the equipment they need to go home safely remains a top priority. These vests provide an added layer of protection during unpredictable and high-risk calls.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Trustee Combs for his continued support of our department and his commitment to the safety of our firefighters and paramedics.

2026 FIRE ACADEMY REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

’s yearly fire academy is now open for registration.

This program is held to a high standard within the fire service and is designed to prepare students to perform from day one. With experienced instructors, top-tier equipment, and access to premier training facilities, our goal is simple: produce firefighters who are ready to hit the street.

This will be our 7th class in 6 years, and every class has sold out. If you’re interested, we strongly encourage you to register early.

Class Details:
Cost: $1,500 (includes gear rental, resources, and tuition)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1800–2200
Dates: August 4, 2026 – December 8, 2026
Scholarships available (contact listed on flyer)

Sugar Creek Township is currently hiring a Township Administrative Assistant to support the Trustee’s Office and assist in serving our community.

This part-time position (28 hours per week) plays a key role in township operations, including assistance programs, financial administration, recordkeeping, and coordination with local agencies and emergency services.

Applicants should have strong communication and customer service skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar systems, and the ability to manage confidential information. Experience in government, finance, or social services is preferred, along with prior office experience. Knowledge of Indiana township laws is a plus, or the ability to learn quickly.

Salary ranges from $42,000 to $50,000 annually based on experience and qualifications, with potential for advancement.

Interviews will be offered to the top 20% of applicants based on qualifications.

crews were dispatched to the Eastway Court Apartments for a reported structure fire.

Engine 442 arrived on scene to find a single-story, four-unit apartment building with fire showing from a window on the alpha side. Crews stretched a 300’ 1.75” attack line and had water on the fire within 3 minutes of arrival.

The fire was marked under control 14 minutes after initial dispatch and was contained to a single unit. A primary search of the structure was completed and all clear for victims.

Another coordinated effort by crews, executing quickly and effectively to bring the situation under control.

Crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Oakswept Way in Greenfield for a vehicle into a structure.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle had impacted the residence, causing structural damage. Crews quickly assessed the scene and stabilized the affected area of the home to prevent further compromise.

Members of the Hancock County Technical Rescue Team—comprised of Sugar Creek Township Fire Department and Greenfield Fire Territory—assisted with structural stabilization operations.

No significant injuries were reported.

This incident highlights the importance of rapid assessment and coordinated technical rescue capabilities to protect both occupants and property following structural impacts.

Following the tornadoes that impacted Northern Indiana last week, agencies across the state worked together to support response and recovery operations.

Fire Chief Brandon Kleine served during the first operational period, working the 1900–0700 shift in ESF-4, representing the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Kleine currently serves as Co-Chair for Mutual Aid with the association and assisted with coordination efforts while supporting the operational deck for ESF-9 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) operations with IN-TF1.

When Indiana Task Force 1 was activated for Urban Search and Rescue operations, 3 members from SCTFD were deployed to assist with response efforts:

• Battalion Chief James Wolsiffer

Their activation highlights the depth of training, professionalism, and readiness within Indiana’s fire service when large-scale incidents impact our communities.

We are proud to see our firefighters and leadership step forward when the call for assistance comes, both locally and across the state.

3/17/26 – 03:34

Sugar Creek Township Fire Department crews were dispatched early this morning for a reported residential fire in the 100 block of Lynnette Way. Medic 442 and Engine 442 arrived on scene and marked the incident working.

Crews located the fire in the attic space above the garage. Firefighters accessed the attic using ground ladders and conducted an interior attack, successfully stopping the fire from extending into the living areas of the residence.

The fire was marked out 19 minutes after the initial dispatch, 13 minutes from first unit arrival.

This incident highlights the training, staffing, and operational readiness of SCTFD crews in quickly locating and controlling hidden fire conditions.

On 2/24/26 at 3:50am Sugar Creek Township units were dispatched to the 6800 block of Poetry Pl in Buck Creek Township Fire Department’s district for a structure fire. The fire was in an apartment complex under construction with no residents.

While transporting a patient to IU Methodist, M442 crew spotted the fire and called it in via radio to Hancock County 911 Center. Upon dispatch, E442 marked the fire working from Station 442, over 4 miles away.

Crews worked for multiple hours utilizing master streams to contain the fire to the single unit. After the fire was marked under control, E445 and Greenfield Fire Territory L421 crews overhauled and checked for extension in adjacent apartments.

BC404 was the third Chief on scene and ran accountability for the incident, while L445 used their bucket for elevated master stream operation. E442 utilized their deck gun for master stream operations. E445 brought water from the nearest hydrant, 900 feet away, and supplied water for the incident. The cause is under investigation.
