Children's Aid Society Southern Pennsylvania District

Children's Aid Society Southern Pennsylvania District Serving children and their families in York, Adams, and Franklin Counties since 1913

Children’s Aid Society is a unique, not-for-profit agency with a rich history of service to at-risk children beginning on 1913 at the home of Sudie May Wingert. She initiated child rescue committees within Church of the Brethren congregations throughout the Southern Pennsylvania District which resulted in early placements of children in congregational foster families. In 1913, we opened a receivin

g home (The Children’s Home) in Carlisle, PA to provide more children with physical shelter and daily nurturing. After helping to provide a future for thousands of children over the course of 37 years of service, the home closed in 1960 due to increasing costs for structural changes required by the Commonwealth. Our mission is empowering children and their families to lead stronger & healthier lives

The agency’s interest in foster care programs continued as we became a significant funding source for organizations that provided placement services and other supportive programs to children in crisis. In the late 1970's a decision was made to become a service agency again with focus on specialized services to children and adolescents. By 1982, The New Oxford Child/Family Counseling Center (now The Nicarry Center) opened to provide child-centered Play Therapy and family counseling for the 2 to 18 year old population. In 1986, the mission expanded to Franklin County at the Frances Leiter Center offering outpatient child/family counseling and family therapy. The Lehman Center opened in 1987 as a child abuse prevention program with an emphasis on ameliorating crises and providing respite support to families experiencing numerous stressors.

A simple way to make a big difference! Right now, we are especially in need of larger-size diapers (3+) and paper products to help support the children and families we serve. Donations of these everyday essentials help us ensure that basic needs are met when they matter most. Thank you for being part of our caring community and for supporting local children and families.
