Behind every rail safety message is a volunteer who cares.

More than 2,000 volunteers across the country help OLI bring rail safety education to schools, community groups and professional drivers. In 2025, that effort reached more than 1 million people.

You do not need a background in rail to make a difference. OLI provides the training and the materials. You bring the time and the heart.

Today, Louisiana Operation Lifesaver was proud to participate in the “Ready, Set, SAFE!” Family Safety Event at the Treehouse Children’s Museum in Alexandria. This free community event brought together families, first responders, and safety organizations to help children learn important life-saving lessons about fire safety, water safety, car seat safety, safe sleep, first aid, and more—all through fun, interactive activities.

A special thank you to our Operation Lifesaver Authorized Volunteer (OLAV), Mr. Billy Fuller, for representing Louisiana Operation Lifesaver at this outstanding event. Billy spent the day engaging families, sharing rail safety information, and teaching children and parents what to do if they encounter a railroad crossing emergency. His dedication to our mission helps make Louisiana communities safer, one conversation at a time.

Volunteers like Billy are the heart of Louisiana Operation Lifesaver. They donate their time to educate others about rail safety, prevent tragedies, and save lives across our state.

Would you like to make a difference in your community? We are always looking for passionate individuals to join our team of volunteers. If you enjoy educating others, working with community groups, and promoting railroad safety, we would love to hear from you.

Together, we can move Louisiana closer to our shared goal of Destination: Zero Deaths.

Match day brings crowds, traffic and excitement. Give yourself extra time and extra attention near the tracks. Never try to beat a train to a crossing. Trains cannot stop quickly and a freight train can take more than 15 soccer fields to stop fully. Make safe choices. See Tracks? Think Train!®

Please please please pay attention!

Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD).

Crossings connect communities. They require everyone's attention. At every crossing, slow down, look both ways and cross only when it is clear.

Always expect a train. Trains are quieter and faster than you think.

Make safe choices at every crossing. Save this and share it with someone who crosses the tracks every day.

Please give every crossing your full attention.

Please give every crossing your full attention.

Every crossing deserves your full attention.

Trains can't stop quickly. A freight train can take more than a mile to stop, even in an emergency.

When you reach a crossing:

Always expect a train.
Never go around gates.
Cross only when the signs and signals are clear.

Harvest season is a special time across Louisiana. We have such a variety of products!

From rice and soybeans to corn, cotton, and sugarcane, our farmers put in long hours to plant and bring in the crops that help feed and support our communities.

With tractors, combines, grain trucks, and farm equipment traveling Louisiana’s back roads, it’s also a good time to remember that railroad tracks are an important part of many harvest routes. Those tracks are active, and trains can come from either direction at any time.

As you’re moving between fields, elevators, and ag facilities, take a few extra seconds at every crossing. Slow down, look, listen, and obey all signs and signals. A little patience can make a big difference in keeping our farmers, families, and neighbors safe.

Thank you to all those working hard during all harvest seasons. Stay safe, and may your harvest be plentiful.
