Tibet On Fire

Tibet On Fire New Orleans community action group focused on raising awareness of recent human rights violations in Tibet.

Beginning in 1950, the Chinese government has overtaken Tibet, causing the Dalai Lama to escape and live in exile and causing the people innumerable sufferings. Not only have atrocious human rights violations been occurring for all of these years, but the natural beauty of Tibet is being exploited to an unimaginable degree. A people who have lived for centuries in harmony with the Earth, respectin

g all life and cycles of existence, are now being persecuted and attacked. Currently, as of last summer, the Chinese government has cracked down on the Tibetan Autonomous Region, expelling all foreigners and gunning down any Tibetans who try to leave the country. Monks and nuns as well as lay people are beaten in the streets and arrested for merely thinking freely and openly. Argentina's Dirty War is no longer a thing of the past - it's happening under our noses in Tibet. When Tibet on Fire started, somewhere between 10 and 15 Tibetans had self-immolated. Now, nearly 100 have given their lives in protest and in hope for international recognition to the situation in Tibet. Tibet on Fire seeks to hear that cry, and spread knowledge of what's really going on, despite the Chinese government's efforts to keep this situation out of the spotlight. The Tibetan culture is one of beauty, compassion, and peace - one that embodies the virtues which can better the world in which we live. So, let's spread the word, allow those who can use their voices to help those whose voices are suppressed.
