JUST IN: NOAA forecasters predict a below normal for 2026 - early preparation remains critical.

NOAA predicts a likely range of 8-14 named storms, of which 3-6 could become hurricanes, including 1-3 major hurricanes.

But it only takes 1 storm to devastate a community.

There is a marginal risk for severe weather and excessive rainfall across the area this afternoon through this evening according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Neutral ground parking has been lifted until 9 AM on 5/12.

Possible impacts are as follows:
Damaging Winds:
* Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.

Large Hail:
* Large hail of up to 1 inch in diameter will be possible.
Tornadoes:
* Tornadoes are not expected but one or two can not be ruled out.
Rainfall
* In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is forecast. There is a chance of local amounts in excess of 4 inches.
* Runoff will lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
* Street flooding is likely from some storms, and flash flooding will be possible in the areas that receive the most rain.
* With rivers already elevated some may climb back into flood or rise to flood stage.
