YWCA of Greater New Orleans

YWCA of Greater New Orleans YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Powerful. Unstoppable.

While in recovery, the YWCA of Greater New Orleans is on the move and positioned to rebuild. We are eliminating racism and empowering women. We will get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, until institutions are transformed, until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do: Equal.

For more than 100 years, the YWCA of Greater New Orleans served women and children in our community, providing essential programs and support when they were needed most. Since losing our building to Hurricane Katrina, the path to recovery has been long.

The good news: construction is now well underway on our new facility! With your help, we can close the remaining funding gaps not covered by FEMA—especially for playground equipment and preparing the building to open its doors.

On May 5th, you can make a meaningful impact by giving on GiveNOLA Day: https://www.givenola.org/organization/ywcano

Every contribution helps us open our doors stronger and ready to serve.

Thank you for standing with us!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to honor survivors, support those in treatment, and raise awareness of the disparities that persist 💗

📊 Did you know?
• A U.S. woman’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is 1 in 8.
• It has the highest mortality rate of any cancer in women ages 20–59.
• African American women face a 31% mortality rate — the highest of any racial or ethnic group.
• Among women under 45, breast cancer is more common in African American women than in white women.
• Younger women, especially African American women, are more likely to develop triple-negative breast cancer — an aggressive subtype with higher mortality.

Knowledge is power. Early detection, access to care, and equity in treatment save lives. Let’s spread awareness and stand together. ✨
