SilenceIsViolence is an anti-violence campaign that was founded following the murders of musician Dinerral Shavers (d. January 4, 2007) in New Orleans. Dinerral and Helen were beloved friends, neighbors, and artists of the Bywater-Marigny district. Following these tragedies, Ken Foster, Helen Gillet, and Baty Landis decided to march to New Orleans City Hall to express publicly our grief and our di

smay at the lack of city leadership on the issue of violent crime. The January 11, 2007 March For Survival was attended by 5,000 concerned citizens, and SilenceIsViolence was founded. On that day, citizens from all parts of the city had a chance to speak directly to our leaders and each other about their fears in our communities and hopes for a safer and more equitable city.

Today, we take a moment to honor and cherish mothers around the world. We also hold close those for whom this day is painful, remembering the mothers they have lost. May we keep their memories alive and honor the deep and lasting impact they have had on our lives.

Our hearts and prayers are with everyone observing Mother’s Day. Let us aspire to create a future filled with peace—one where violence, hatred, and racism end, and justice and compassion prevail.

Wishing you all a heartfelt Mother's Day.

Please share a picture of your mother in the comments as we celebrate and honor the incredible women who have shaped our lives.

With peace and blessings ❤️❤️❤️

SIV team frequently provides support to victim-survivors and the families of homicide victims.

We should aspire to live in a world devoid of violence. Children ought to be safe both at home and within their communities.

Regrettably, we continue to face trauma and tragedy with each senseless act of violence, including murders, shootings, robberies, and carjackings.

Change begins and must end with us.

Rest in power Josiah Brackens 💔😢

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate VIP Ladies and Kids on their twenty-third anniversary. Our Executive Director is both the founder and the President of the organization.

These women support the mission of Silence Is Violence and are consistently willing to volunteer when needed.

Silence Is Violence remains an integral part of the cultural community, as the organization was founded by a former member of the Social Aid & Pleasure Club, "New Orleans Bayou Steppers," which included Antoinette K-Doe.

Happy Anniversary VIP Ladies & Kids!
