24th MEU Assumes Littoral Combat Force-24 Mission

📍 U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) Area of Responsibility, 2026

U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit assumed duties as Littoral Combat Force-24, serving as U.S. Southern Command’s forward-deployed crisis response force in support of Operation Southern Spear.

The force provides rapidly deployable capabilities for crisis response, maritime interdiction, disaster relief, personnel recovery, and operations against narco-terrorist and illicit trafficking networks, strengthening regional security and supporting homeland defense objectives across the Western Hemisphere.

As SOUTHCOM's forward-deployed crisis response force, the 24th MEU enhances the United States' ability to respond rapidly to emerging threats, support partner nations, and protect shared security interests throughout the Western Hemisphere.
