🍂📈CATCH BASIN CLEANING PROGRESS📈🍂

Since we took over small diameter drainage at the beginning of 2025, we have doubled the amount of debris removed from previous years! We are halfway through 2026 and are working with internal crews and our contractor to increase the amount of debris removed - STAY TUNED!

You can check out cleaning progress and learn more about our drainage system on our dashboard: https://www.swbno.org/Stormwater/StormDrainCleaning

Help us help you - remember to clear debris and trash from the front of your catch basin to help prevent it from entering our drainage system.

Regular catch basin cleaning can help:
✔️ Prevent flooding
✔️ Maintain proper drainage
✔️ Extend catch basin lifespan
✔️ Promote clean waterways

Report damaged, clogged catch basins, drainage, or flooding issues on https://www.swbno.org/Stormwater/FloodTracker to help mitigate flooding this season.

UPDATE:
Power issue temporarily impacted drainage & potable water pumps

Due to a brief power interruption, the drainage pumps that rely on 25-Hz power were offline for approximately thirty minutes to an hour.

SWBNO crews responded immediately and have successfully restored the affected drainage pumps to service, as well as restored power to the potable water pumps.

⛈️⚡Ahead of Tropical Storm Arthur, please see our latest Pumping & Power status. We have 93MW of available 25-Hz power capacity, while our system requires approximately 44 megawatts at peak demand. Turbine 6 is available if needed, while Turbine 5 remains out of service.

We have 87 of 93 major pumps available.

We have installed a new temporary pump at the Carrollton underpass while the station's three permanent pumps remain out of service.
All other underpass pumping stations are operational and available for this weather event.

Residents should understand that during periods of intense rainfall, localized street flooding is possible. Our drainage system is designed to handle approximately one inch of rainfall during the first hour of a storm and one-half inch of rainfall per hour thereafter. As an example, if an area receives three inches of rain in one hour, it may take up to five hours for that water to drain from the system.

Catch Basin Cleaning is in progress! Crews are out cleaning the inside of catch basins. We are working to remove debris from the inside of storm drains and clean drain line laterals to help prevent flooding in your area.

In the meantime, please do your part to make sure the process is handled as efficiently as possible. Cleaning the debris and trash outside of your catch basin helps make sure it stays out of our drainage system.

For any further questions concerning catch basins:

Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has canceled the precautionary boil water advisory for the Lake Shore - Lake Vista neighborhood.

-Allen Toussaint Blvd from Marconi Dr to Beauregard Ave
-Beauregard Ave from Allen Toussaint Blvd to Lakeshore Dr
-Lakeshore Dr from Beauregard Ave to Marconi Dr
-Marconi Dr from Lakeshore Dr to Allen Toussaint Blvd

Water pressures in this area fell below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) due to a watermain repair that is impacting a large part of the neighborhood. While pressure has improved to the impacted area, we are working on a path forward to replace additional segments of this water main which will be scheduled at a later time.
