Prime Time Family Reading

Prime Time Family Reading Prime Time Inc. offers a set of unique, humanities-focused, and outcomes-based programs designed to engage children and families.

All Prime Time initiatives are based on a common methodology featuring five elements of learning and teaching:

Participant centered instruction and learning - Facilitate reading and discussion based on participant interests and responses. Socratic Method and Open-ended Questioning-Facilitate learning by asking, rather than telling. Ask follow-up questions to deepen the consideration and understa

nding of a subject or issue. Development of Higher-order Thinking Skills-Adhere to text and guide participants to compare and contrast, analyze, describe, predict, etc. Making Personal Connections-Guide participants to connect literature and discussion to other/personal stories, current events, film, music, poetry, artwork, or television, etc. Collective Learning Strategies Promoting Respectful, Diverse Audiences-Permit participants to engage with and learn from one another as well as from the instructor/facilitator via group discussion.

Earlier this week, on Louisiana Literacy Day, we announced the results of a landmark five-year study that proves our Prime Time program significantly increases participants’ school readiness, validating Prime Time as a national model for family engagement and literacy success. We are so proud of this important work, and it was so special to make this announcement surrounded by some of the program implementors, donors, and families who make it possible.

Learn more about the study and Prime Time from LEH Executive Director Miranda Restovic in this video and at www.primetimefamily.org.
