The Louisiana National Guard Museums are dedicated to educating the public about the history of the Louisiana National Guard and other aspects of Louisiana military history. Military History and Weapons Museum, is located at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. It exhibits the history of the state's militia and National Guard from colonial times through modern day missions. The Louis

iana Maneuvers and Military Museum, located at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, also covers Guard history, but focuses more heavily on the contributions of Central Louisiana. The Louisiana Maneuvers during World War II, centered at Camp Beauregard, represented the largest domestic training exercises in the nation's history. Both museums are inside active military bases. While a photo ID is required for entry, our MPs are always glad to welcome you and give you directions once inside.

After our May presentation on "Frenchie" by Jason Theriot we were pleased to be gifted these vintage postcards from Camp Blanding, Florida. In 1940, as the threat of war increased and the United States Army was built up, Camp Blanding became a federal facility and training center where many of our Louisiana soldiers trained and were then sent overseas.
This topic and many more can be enjoyed as part of our Speaker Series. Join us for our next lecture, Thursday, June 11th for a fascinating history of Louisiana knives. 🤓

Throwback Thursday: Louisiana State Guard in 1943. The LSG was first created during World War II as a state defense force. It was disbanded in 1947 and was later rebuilt in the 1980s.
Today the Louisiana State Guard is an organized team of soldiers and officers, trained as experts in operations and logistics, and organized for deployment to each parish emergency operations center during a crisis.

Then and Now: Would you believe these two buildings are actually the same building? Hufft Hall was built in the late 1890s as a hospital at Jackson Barracks and was converted to the headquarters building for the Adjutant General in the 1920s.
The Works Progress Administration undertook a major renovation in the 1930s adding a brick facade and renovated front section that completely transformed the former hospital. Yet you can still see remnants of the old design. Today the building functions as billeting. 🏥

D-Day countdown, On June 2, 1944, Allied troops continued final preparations for what would become one of the largest military operations in history.
Did you know? The U.S. Army rehearsed modern warfare right here in Louisiana. The Louisiana Maneuvers of 1940–41 tested future generals, military tactics, and logistics on a scale never before seen in America. Lessons learned in Louisiana helped prepare the Army that would land on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
