What a weekend! We have some exciting updates from the Austin DNC Meeting:
-The 2028 primary calendar is set, and it’s the most diverse early window in Democratic Party history, including 1.6 MILLION more young voters (18-24) than in 2020. This is a massive change from previous presidential primary calendars.
- At Youth Council, President Fatima Heyward brought the energy! She gave the Youth Council an update on YDA, including a spotlight on our Summer Training Series.
-The Convention Page Program is more youth-friendly! Thanks to the Rules & Bylaws Committee, with YDA’s DNC Representative Steph Campanha Wheaton pushing key amendments, young people (and veterans) are now prioritized for the program. This means YOU will have more opportunity to attend and work at the DNC 2028 Convention!
-Abolish ICE is now official DNC policy. The Resolutions Committee, with YDA members Jason Park (CA) and Ben Hackett (MN) at the table, voted for a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE, which passed the full DNC. Youth Representatives continue to move the needle, and we are incredibly proud of that!
-Last but not least, we owe a huge thank you to the Texas Young Democrats for throwing an unforgettable Young Dems After Dark event! It was a fun night of karaoke, community, and incredible speakers, including TYD President Joella Methola. Y’all set the bar!
Thank you all, and see you at the next one!
