Dear Community Leader,

Together Louisiana, a statewide coalition of community organizations affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation, the nation’s oldest and largest community organizing network, is hosting a Tax Fairness Civic Academy on Thursday, July 28th from 7 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. at The Propeller on 4035 Washington Ave. New Orleans.

The goal of this event is to begin to introduce to New Orleans Area institutional and community leaders the facts about our state tax structure and its impact on our budget. For example, Louisiana currently has the nation’s most generous system of tax exemptions. If Louisiana moved from first in the generosity of our exemptions to second we could restore the 57% cuts to higher education that have occurred over the last few years, fill the current budget deficit and pay for universal pre-K.

Another impact of our current tax structure is that over the last 8 years the income of the bottom 99% of Louisiana Tax payers have gone down, while the incomes of the top 1% have gone up 137% while their taxes have been decreasing. Together Louisiana is currently conducting a statewide Tax Fairness Campaign to build a constituency for tax reform. The Thursday, July 28th 7 p.m. Civic Academy at The Propeller is the first step in the New Orleans Tax Fairness Campaign.

You can register for this event by clicking the button below and you can register other people as well.
