Downtown Development District of New Orleans

Downtown Development District of New Orleans The DDD's mission is to drive the development of Downtown New Orleans. Tag your photos to showcase the heart of the Crescent City!

The DDD was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1974 as the nation's first assessment-based business improvement district (BID) to provide enhanced services in economic development, cleaning and safety. The DDD services the area bounded by Iberville Street, the Pontchartrain Expressway, Claiborne Avenue and the Mississippi River. The DDD is governed by an 11-member Board of Commissioners who represent a cross section of the diverse Downtown community. Appointed by local elected officials, our commissioners help guide the policies and programs of the DDD.

Canal Street Phase II work has begun!

Today, The DDD started construction on the next phase of infrastructure enhancements along Canal Street, investing more than $150,000 in repairs and upgrades that will improve safety, accessibility and the pedestrian experience.

The project includes:
• Reconstruction of the Molly Marine Plaza sidewalk
• Improvements to 1,700+ square feet of brick and flagstone sidewalks
• Cleaning of 850+ linear feet of sidewalk drains
• 30 new steel drain covers
• ADA curb landing upgrades
• Replacement of granite sidewalk tiles and curb sections
• Replacement of termite bait station covers

This is another step in the DDD’s ongoing work to maintain and strengthen Canal Street, Downtown’s primary commercial corridor.

Downtown New Orleans is entering a new era.

Nearly $2 billion in catalytic projects are positioning Downtown for long-term growth—from the redevelopment of Charity Hospital and Tulane’s expansion to plans for the Smoothie King Center and a new convention center hotel.

At the same time, business investment, new jobs, housing, public infrastructure and programs supporting local businesses are strengthening Downtown today.

As DDD CEO & President Seth Knudsen writes in Biz New Orleans, the opportunity ahead is significant—and DDD is focused on building the foundation for the next generation of growth.
