Sheriff Michelle M. Woodfork and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office joined our law enforcement partners as the FBI announced the results of Operation Summer Heat 2.0.

From June through August, this operation resulted in 662 arrests, more than 1,000 charges, 315 fi****ms seized, and more than 207 kilograms of illegal drugs taken off the streets across Louisiana.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is proud to be one of the many agencies that played a role in this operation. Working together and building strong partnerships continues to be an important part of keeping our communities safe.

Today, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Southern University at New Orleans and the Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, participated in an initiative to encourage students to register to vote and make their voices heard.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office invites members of the public to attend our Victim Support Meeting, Wednesday, September 16, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office

This meeting offers a safe, welcoming space for individuals and families impacted by crime to connect with local resources, share experiences, and receive support from caring professionals and community partners.

Sheriff Michelle M. Woodfork and members of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office attended the visitation of Jerome “Big Duck” Smith to pay their respects and offer heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Mr. Smith was a civil rights leader, mentor, culture bearer, and true pillar of New Orleans. His lifelong commitment to justice, our youth, and the preservation of our city’s culture touched generations and will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest prayers to the Smith family and everyone mourning this tremendous loss. May his legacy continue to live through the countless lives he impacted.

Sheriff Michelle M. Woodfork recently attended the Bureau of Governmental Research Breakfast, where she served as the panel’s sole speaker. She discussed the BGR report, “The Keys to the Jail,” and shared her vision for the future of OPSO.

Sheriff Woodfork spoke about working with our criminal justice partners to responsibly reduce the jail population while keeping public safety and accountability at the forefront. She also highlighted the OPSO Security and Accountability Council a team of experienced professionals helping OPSO address challenges, strengthen operations, and continue working toward ending federal oversight under the consent decree.

Sheriff Woodfork remains focused on collaboration, accountability, and moving OPSO forward.

Sheriff Michelle M. Woodfork hosted her first Faith Leaders Meet and Greet.

The meeting focused on ways the faith community can support individuals in our custody through baptisms, church services, prayer groups, Communion Sundays, and other faith-based programs. Leaders also discussed helping individuals successfully transition back into their families and communities.

Together, we can provide hope, guidance, and a fresh start.

Operation Golden Eagle started nearly a decade ago as a partnership between the New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana State Police. This initiative has grown into a strong multi-agency effort. Today, our local, state, and federal partners continue working together toward one shared mission, making our communities safer.

During the meeting, Sheriff Michelle M. Woodfork thanked all of the partner agencies involved, especially the men and women on the ground doing the work each day.

“Golden Eagle is a special operation that I’ve watched grow over the years. It’s one of the best law enforcement operations in the country. It takes more than collaboration it takes coordination.”

The results speak to what can be accomplished when agencies work together with a shared commitment to public safety.
