Roughly 97 percent of Earth's water is saltwater stored in our oceans, leaving less than 3 percent as freshwater.

๐ŸŒŠ For World Oceans Day, we must remember that our daily actions directly impact our marine environments because every river basin connects to the sea. Recent federal policy rollbacks have weakened protections for critical headwaters and wetlands, allowing industrial runoff to compromise our entire water network.

๐Ÿ’ง ๐ŸŒฑ Monitoring upstream pollutants is VITAL to protecting downstream ecosystems as well as our very own neighborhoods and families.

Ascension and Iberville Parish residents, we are coming to you. ๐Ÿ“ข
The Mississippi River Chemical Corridor is already home to a dense concentration of petrochemical industry. With over 25 facilities now proposed or under construction, the total in this 85-mile stretch is approaching 200, and the majority of new construction is concentrated in just 10 parishes. Yours is among them.

On Tuesday, June 16th from 6 to 8PM, the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice is hosting an Environmental Justice Community Data Forum at the St. Gabriel Community Center. This event is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

Come hear directly from experts about what is proposed for your parish, how plant toxins impact community health, and how you can advocate for your family and neighbors.

Tangie Davis (c/o 2024) couldn't have expected that when she dropped her cousin off for an interview at DSCEJ, she would leave with not only a lucrative career, but a professional, caring and reliable extended family.

The DSCEJ Worker Training Program not only trains scholars for vital roles on the frontlines of the environmental workforce, but also seeks to care for the human beings doing the work. We offer wraparound services with every training program that assist with mitigating the barriers many of our students face while working to better themselves and further their careers.

This year, we are embarking on a new journey of training youth (18 - 24 years old) to join the solar energy industry ready to sit for credentialing exams and participate in the green economy through solar panel installation.

If you see yourself or someone you know in Tangie's story, visit our website to learn more about the Solar Workforce Training Program. Don't wait! Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the June 15 start date.

For over 30 years, we have watched communities transform when people have access to real pathways, not just promises. ๐ŸŒฑ
Carlos Valdez completed our Workforce Training Program in 2025. Today, he is building a thriving career in environmental health and safety, with a company that values what he brings. That outcome is exactly what this work is designed to produce. ๐Ÿ’ผโœจ
Now we are opening that door again, and this time we are going solar. โ˜€๏ธ
Our Solar Workforce Training Program is enrolling now for youth ages 18 to 24. Participants receive a weekly stipend, hands-on solar installation training, and upon completion, a pathway to a solar installation apprenticeship and eligibility to sit for the NABCEP credentialing exam, one of the most recognized credentials in the clean energy industry.
This is workforce development rooted in community, driven by data, and designed to last.

Dr. Beverly Wright has made it her mission to make the subjects of public health research into the voices of a movement. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

For over 30 years, the Communiversity Model has done exactly that. It is the framework behind every Community Data Forum, every trained resident scientist, every permitting challenge backed by community-generated evidence. It is why the people most impacted by pollution in Cancer Alley and communities like it are not waiting to be studied. They are building the record themselves. ๐Ÿ“ŠโœŠ

The research is documented. The forums are happening. The next one is in Ascension and Iberville parishes on June 24.

Swipe through to learn more about the model driving this work, then pass it along. The more people who understand what the Communiversity Model makes possible, the harder it becomes to ignore. ๐Ÿ”

As hurricane season is rapidly approaching, one thing we NEED you to know: Even natural disasters donโ€™t impact all communities the same. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ
๏ฟฝBlack, lower income, and fenceline communities face the most severe health and environmental disruptions, yet standard emergency frameworks frequently overlook their long-term recovery needs. That is why we are gathered at the Ashรฉ Powerhouse Theater for the Spring 2026 Disaster Response Convening. โšœ๏ธโœŠ
๏ฟฝIn the spirit of the Communiversity Model, community-based organizations, community health centers, and concerned experts are uniting to build a scalable blueprint for climate resilience. We are turning lived experiences into undeniable data that forces policymakers and funders to allocate resources where they are needed most. ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ“ˆโœจ
๏ฟฝA huge thank you to our key partners for driving this critical work forward:
