On September 11, 2026, the New Milford Fire Department took part in a solemn ceremony honoring not only the members of the fire service who were lost, but all Americans whose lives were taken in the tragic attacks on 9/11/2001.

This day remains one of the most profound and painful moments in our nation’s history. It is a tragedy that must never be forgotten. As we gathered in remembrance, we reflected on the courage of the first responders, the resilience of survivors, and the countless families whose lives were forever changed.

We continue to pray for all the lives lost and for the families who still carry the weight of that day. Their strength and sacrifice endure as a reminder of the unity and resolve that define our nation.

Join us Friday, September 11, at 6 p.m. on the Borough Hall front lawn as we come together with the New Milford NJ Police Department and our community to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

Together, we’ll honor the lives lost, remember the first responders who answered the call, and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice shown that day.

Yesterday morning, just before 10:00 AM, the Department was dispatched into the Borough of River Edge for a confirmed working fire assignment. The incident escalated quickly, prompting a second alarm and bringing additional resources to the scene.

Chiefs 30 and 301, along with 34 Engine and 31 Truck, responded. Crews from both companies assisted with opening ceilings and walls to check for extension, followed by extensive overhaul and hot spot mitigation. The residence was vacant and under renovation at the time of the fire.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. New Milford units operated on scene for approximately two hours before being released by River Edge Command. This was a strong stop by Battalion 9 crews and all assisting departments.

During the evening of August 20, 2026, the Department responded to New Bridge for a report of a vehicle trapped in rising floodwater with occupants still inside. Severe weather conditions and rapidly accumulating runoff created hazardous conditions along the roadway.

Chiefs 30 and 301 arrived first and confirmed six individuals remained inside the stranded vehicle. Tac‑38 responded and promptly launched Marine‑2 to access the vehicle. Upon arrival at the scene, Chief 301, equipped in his swift‑water rescue suit, assisted Marine‑2 personnel in safely transferring all occupants into the rescue boat.

All six individuals were transported to a safe location and later provided courtesy transport to Police Headquarters, where they awaited pickup.

The Department reminds residents that driving into rising or standing water is extremely dangerous. Floodwater can conceal hazards such as downed power lines, open manhole covers, debris, and strong currents capable of sweeping vehicles off the roadway.

If your vehicle becomes surrounded by rising water, remaining inside is often the safest option until trained emergency personnel arrive. Swift‑water conditions can change rapidly, and responders are equipped to navigate these environments safely.
