Join us for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a free and anonymous event to safely dispose of unused or expired medications.
Hosted by the DEA, this nationwide initiative takes place twice a year and plays a vital role in protecting our communities.
✅ Why it matters:
🔹 Prevent Drug Misuse: Many who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from home medicine cabinets. Safe disposal helps keep these medications out of the wrong hands.
🔹 Protect Public Health: Reduces the risk of accidental poisoning, overdose, and substance abuse.
🔹 Protect the Environment: Flushing or throwing medications in the trash can pollute our water and harm wildlife. Take Back Day ensures proper, eco-friendly disposal.

Unannounced To***co and Electronic Cigarette Compliance Inspection Results

On April 8, 2026, the New Milford Police Department, in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) To***co Prevention and Enforcement Program (TPEP), conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments selling to***co and electronic cigarette products.

These inspections are part of our ongoing efforts to enforce state laws prohibiting the sale of to***co and e-cigarette products to individuals under the age of 21.

➡️ Connecticut law requires retailers to check a valid photo ID for anyone appearing under the age of 30 before completing a sale.
➡️ Retailer training is available at: www.ctto***cotraining.com

A total of 23 establishments were inspected.

This text message is a 'phishing' scam. *DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN THE TEXT MESSAGE - By clicking on the link in this text, you could be at risk of a financial loss, or compromising your personal data. There are many red flags in this text that can help you identify it as a scam: It is sent from a strange email address, it is claiming to be a message from the DMV but stating they will report you to the DMV, it is creating a sense of urgency for you to remit payment, there is no such thing as the 'Northern Connecticut State Administrative Code', or a CT general statute code of 15C-16.003. "Transfer to a toll booth and charge 35% service fee" ( ? ) , the criminal justice system does not directly affect your credit score, and finally asking you to click a strange link that has '.gov' in the link but does not end in .gov . If received, report this text as a scam by forwarding the text to 7726 (SPAM) or visit the Federal Trade Commission website at ReportFraude.FTC.Gov

Since November 2000, Detective Smith has proudly served our community while taking on numerous specialized roles throughout his career. He has served as Team Leader of the Crash Reconstruction Team, Certified Fire Investigator, member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, School Resource Officer, Child Passenger Safety Technician, Field Training Officer, and a valued member of the Dive Rescue Team.

Over the years, Detective Smith has earned multiple unit citations and commendations, the Medal of Meritorious Service, a Chief’s Citation Award, and graduated first in his police academy class.

Officers from the 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 recently took part in 𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 to stay prepared for winter emergencies involving frozen lakes and ponds and waterways.

These situations are 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, and regular training helps ensure our team can respond 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆 if the need arises.

We are planning ahead for our 7th annual Citizens Police Academy! This is a great opportunity to learn about Police Work, and policing in your community! Meet our officers, and gain a better understanding of the work they do every day. While the 2026 program dates have not been scheduled yet, we are building a list of people who are interested in attending. Applicants should be New Milford Residents, over 18 years old, with no serious criminal history. Our CPA is typically from 6PM-8PM one night a week for 8 - 10 weeks. Topics covered are Patrol, Dive Team, Marine Patrol, Crime Scene investigations with Detectives, Accident Reconstruction, K9's, Aviation unit, and more! On January 16, 2026, the NMPD proudly hosted a retirement celebration honoring Sergeant Carla Giordano and Sergeant James Brady, both of whom dedicated 25 years of service to our community. 🎉👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

The evening also included recognition of several officers for their outstanding performance in 2025, with Officer Steven Palmer receiving the well deserved 2025 Officer of the Year award. 🏆

It was truly a wonderful evening, and we are incredibly proud of the men and women who serve our community with such dedication and professionalism. Thank you to our community for your continued support, and congratulations to all of the recipients on a job well done!
