Community partnerships remain central to the mission of Frederick County Public Schools. In my role as a Key City Rotary member, I have an opportunity to read to elementary school children - and this morning was an absolute delight. There are so many ways to give back, and bring light, to our students and I’m grateful for the many partners who do so. I hope on this day of remembrance that each of you finds a way to capture just a little bit of joy and service into your day.

Happy first day of school, FCPS! I had the honor to join Dr. Dyson, Dean Rose FCPS BOE, County Executive Fitzwater, and State Superintendent Dr. Wright this morning to visit Linganore High School and New Market Middle School. Even on day 1 as we visited classrooms, we heard a strong emphasis on academics, leadership, and kindness. It’s a beautiful day to start off a great school year.

Thank you to all of our amazing educators and staff for welcoming our students back with compassion, care, and high expectations.

This morning, my daughter and I had the chance to attend the unveiling of a new mural in Frederick and the Juneteenth celebration in Mullinix park. The mural celebrates the legacy of Black educators in Frederick and reminds all of us of the importance of ensuring true history remains in all of our schools.

This afternoon I had the chance to tour the soon-to-be home of the Frederick Youth Center. Frederick Youth Council members facilitated the tour and shared the important components that will make the space welcoming for students.

Huge thank you to Kimberly Fisher (career coach) for the invitation to join Karen Yoho, BOE Member at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School this afternoon to speak to an amazing group of 8th graders. The students were incredibly engaged and thoughtful. Mrs. Yoho and I were even asked for our autographs 💙

Last night, several BOE members attended the Manabadi graduation at OHS to celebrate students and volunteers. I was honored to be a part of the festivities.
