This week is National Public Works Week, and we want to take a moment to graciously thank our Street Department!! Sam Barnett, Jerry Sprouse, and Devin Brown work tirelessly to keep our streets safe, clean, and running smoothly for the community. From repairs and maintenance, to controlling storm water during severe weather, the “can-do-crew” works hard behind the scenes to keep New Madrid moving forward. Thanks for your commitment to the community!

⚠️ Severe Weather Alert – Please Stay Prepared ⚠️

We are closely monitoring a significant severe weather event expected to impact our area today, with multiple rounds of storms possible.

What to expect:
• Strong to severe thunderstorms
• Potential for tornadoes
• Damaging straight-line winds (70+ mph possible)
• Large to giant hail

Storms may redevelop this afternoon, with the highest risk this evening (approximately 7 PM – 12 PM) and possibly continuing later into the night.

Now is the time to prepare:
✔️ Charge phones and backup battery packs
✔️ Secure outdoor furniture and loose items
✔️ Have flashlights, batteries, water, and nonperishable food ready
✔️ Review your family’s safety plan and shelter locations

If a Tornado Warning is issued:
➡️ Take shelter immediately in a basement, storm cellar, or small interior room on the lowest level
➡️ Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior walls

• Be prepared for possible power outages due to high winds and falling debris
• If outages occur, report them at 573-748-2458
• Stay far away from downed power lines — always assume they are energized
• If using a generator, operate it outdoors and away from windows/doors

Our crews are on standby and ready to respond as quickly and safely as conditions allow. Thank you.

Mayor White has officially declared April 23rd, 2026 as HEATH POINDEXTER DAY! Heath will retire from UPS this Thursday, after 28 years serving New Madrid.

Heath has been a pivotal piece of this community spanning multiple generations. His work ethic, diligence, and commitment should be a shining example to us all. He always has a big smile on his face, and willing to lend a helping hand. We will greatly miss Heath in our community!!

As a result of his retirement and this proclamation presentation, we are inviting residents to the New Madrid Community Building, on Thursday April 23rd, at 5PM. Come express your gratitude and thanks for his years of service, and help celebrate his send off as he completes his route with a police es**rt. We wish you well Heath!
