"What does Mental Health Awareness mean to me? To treat everyone with kindness." 💙

Mark, one of our Rehabilitation Specialists, has worked in human services for three decades. Before coming to Sound, he worked as an assistant teacher at the Oak Hill School in Hartford supporting children with special needs and autism.

For Mark, the work starts with showing up each day with a positive mindset and creating an environment where people feel safe, comfortable, and supported.

"I really enjoy giving back to those in need." – Mark

Please join us in congratulating Tim Strong, Program Coordinator at Sound Community Services, on completing his Peer Recovery Support Certification through Advocacy Unlimited.

This accomplishment reflects hard work, personal growth, and a continued commitment to supporting others through shared experience, understanding, and encouragement.

Peer support plays an important role in behavioral health work, reminding people that they are not alone and that support can come from someone who truly understands the challenges they may be facing.

Congratulations, Tim, on this meaningful milestone and thank you for all that you bring to Sound each day. 💙💛

Mental Health Awareness Month is often centered around big conversations, but sometimes the impact is found in smaller moments and shared experiences too.

Recently, Jason, one of our per diem staff members, had the opportunity to bring a few clients and fellow staff behind the scenes at the 2025 Women's Big East Tournament at Mohegan Sun. What started as a VIP tour turned into a memorable experience filled with excitement, connection, and a chance to experience something new together.

Outside of Sound, Jason works in athletic communications, including announcing, TV productions, and statistics for collegiate athletics. But when talking about his role here at Sound, he keeps it simple:

"Mental health is just as important as physical health. I enjoy coming to work and interacting with the amazing clients and staff, hoping in some small way to make their day a great one. You never what what kind of day someone is having or what they may be going through."

A great experience and great reminder of how meaningful connection and shared experiences can be.

A meaningful way to start Mental Health Awareness Month.

Our Social Rehab group participated in a trauma release yoga and transcendental meditation session. It was an opportunity to pause, breathe, and reconnect in a different way.

Thank you to Enlived Yoga for coming in and leading the session.

And of course, Ella, our Deputy Chief of Programs (and in-house therapy dog), made her rounds and joined in, as she does. 🐾

This is part of the work. Creating space, building comfort, and supporting connection in ways that meet people where they are.

We were back at the Capitol this week for The Alliance: The Voice of Community Nonprofits Rally for Nonprofits—out on the green on a beautiful spring day.

Staff and clients from agencies across Connecticut showed up, connected, and spoke up for the services our communities rely on every day. It was a strong showing all around.

Always good to stand alongside others doing this work across the state and make sure our voices are part of the conversation.

We also had the chance to hear from New Lamont, among others, and connect with our very own, State Representative Anthony Nolan.

Proud of our team and everyone who showed up 💙

Our newest NHO class has officially wrapped and we're excited to welcome this group to Sound Community Services.

Over the past few weeks, they've gotten a look into the work, the people, and the purpose that drive what we do every day. Now they're stepping into it, and it's great to have them here.

Looking forward to the impact they'll make and the connections they'll build along the way.💛
