As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, it’s important that we honor and preserve Ohio’s rich cultural heritage. The Heritage Festival at Great Council State Park offers families and visitors a meaningful opportunity to learn about the Native American and early European settlers, the history of Old Chillicothe, and the traditions that continue to shape Ohio today.

Celebrate Ohio’s stories, cultures, and outdoor heritage at the Great Council State Park Heritage Celebration on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Xenia!

This free, family‑friendly festival is one of ODNR’s America 250 events and brings together artisans, living‑history presenters, community partners, hands‑on activities, and immersive experiences that highlight the rich heritage connected to Great Council State Park and the surrounding region.

Visitors can enjoy interactive craft stations, community exhibits, reenactor demonstrations, fried fish samples at the Wild Ohio Harvest Kitchen (11 a.m.–1 p.m.), guided tours, a food truck, and a full day of outdoor learning and fun for all ages.

Here’s a look at some of the day’s featured programming so you can plan your visit:

• Chief Glenna, Eastern Shawnee Tribe – 10:30–11 a.m.

• Peter Cozzens Remarks & Q&A – 11 a.m.–12 p.m.

• Interpretive Center Guided Tour – 12–1 p.m.

• Girl Scouts Badge Reveal – 12–12:15 p.m.

• Governor DeWine Remarks & Doug Hall Painting Unveiling – 1–1:30 p.m.

• Living History: Daniel Boone (portrayed by Robert Alvin Crum) – 2–2:30 p.m.

• Interpretive Center Guided Tour – 2:30–3:30 p.m.

• Absentee Shawnee Tribe Presentation – 2:45–3:15 p.m.

• Terracon Archaeological Exploration – 3:30–4 p.m.

Parking will be located at Xenia High School (303 Kinsey Road) with a free shuttle to and from the park. Please plan a little extra time for shuttle transport.

I asked for an immediate halt on new home healthcare and hospice businesses being able to become Medicaid providers. This pause will allow Ohio Medicaid to stop enrollment of new providers and assess existing providers to help remove those at high risk of having committed fraud.

It was great watching all the amazing athletes at the Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games in Columbus on Saturday. These athletes showed incredible determination and sportsmanship. I was proud to cheer on these champions!

Ohio has been a national leader in catching and prosecuting Medicaid fraud thanks to a strong partnership between Ohio Medicaid and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Ohio led the nation in Medicaid fraud indictments and convictions combined for a number of years while I was Ohio attorney general, and their work continues to recover millions of dollars in fraudulent Medicaid payments.

On Tuesday, CMS Administrator Dr. Oz joined Fran and me at Hopewell Elementary School for an OhioSEE ceremony. Now, 15 high-priority counties are using the OhioSEE model to bring comprehensive vision services to students right at school. Thanks to Dr. Oz and other federal partners, we will be expanding OhioSEE to rural communities statewide next school year with a portion of Ohio's Rural Health Transformation Program Award.
