It’s , so we’re reminiscing on MU1 Sam West’s debut performance on Sunday!
He is the first male vocalist in Coast Guard Band history (!!), and we are so impressed with his rendition of “Go the Distance” from Hercules, arranged by our own MUC Sean Nelson.
Welcome aboard, MU1 West! 👏🎶🎤

The concert marks CAPT Williamson’s final concert in Leamy Hall before his retirement in July! It will also feature retiring harpist MUC Megan Sesma on the world premiere of Kevin Day’s Harp Concertino, a work that she commissioned for the occasion.

The full Band will also be highlighted on David Maslanka’s tour-de-force Symphony No. 4; vocal soloists MU1 Allison Landstedt and MU1 Samuel West will also be featured.
The concert will be live streamed on YouTube.

On this Memorial Day, we recognize the US Coast Guard’s only Medal of Honor recipient, Signalman First Class Douglas Munro, who died in the line of duty on September 27, 1942 at Guadalcanal. While evacuating 500 Marines from the beach, Signalman First Class Munro shielded the Marines from enemy fire with his own boat, sacrificing his life. The crew carried on and successfully retrieved the Marines off of the beach.

This video features our brass quintet performing the Coast Guard hymn at Munro’s memorial in Cle Elum, Washington.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 on their graduation today to become Ensigns in the US Coast Guard!

Welcome MU1 Gianluca Farina and happy first rehearsal!
We are so grateful MU1 Farina is jumping into playing so soon (he hasn’t even been issued a uniform yet!) after moving from Charlotte, North Carolina just yesterday. Before enlisting in the Coast Guard, he was a member of the Charlotte Symphony. Welcome aboard, shipmate! 🎺
