Village of New London Village

On Monday, June 15th from 4pm - 6pm, Michelle Carpenter from OHM Advisors will be conducting a door to door income survey within the Village of New London. Unfortunately we did not get enough responses through the mailings that are needed to complete this process so door to door is required. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. This information could benefit the Village in future funding opportunities.

Good afternoon, the income survey has been cancelled. The Village of New London has benefited in the past from CDBG (Community Block Grants) which is funded through the County, State and Federal Government. This funding as well as other funding likes to target communities that can show the most need. The Federal government conduct census surveys every so many years and uses this data to allocate resources to areas who show the most need. The problem I have dealt with in the past is that the Federal and State governments have put us in a census track that includes more than just New London by including large landowners outside the Village to be included in this and we end up below the 51% LMI (Low to Moderate Income Levels). When I seen this, I thought New London was not getting a true representation of the Village and our needs within the Village. So, when applying for grants that takes this into consideration, we are at a disadvantage. One thing that can be done to correct this is the Village conduct our own survey and collect our own data to show we are above the 51% LMI. By being able to show this gives us some advantage on grant applications so we can get the most for the community whether it is higher percentage grant or lower interest loans or a combination of both on capital improvement projects. This process has been proven to work in the past. When we submit for grant funding on a project, we must compete (in most cases) with every other community fighting for the same funds. Absolutely nothing is guaranteed. Every funding agency has their own rules and requirements, some are easier to work with than others but all require us to show the need and then gives you all the obstacles (I call them flaming hoops that we have to jump through) that have to met in order for our applications to get a second look. Most of the projects done in the last 15 years would not have been possible if not for funding and grant opportunities. None of was meant to upset anyone and I apologize; I was only trying to help the community.
