I'm here with Lisa Demers who was left waiting at her Dr.'s office for 4 hours for a ride home. She had called for a ride to her Dr. for her flu shot, the transport was 2 hours late because they come from New Haven, by the time she reaches her Dr.'s office it was closed and the Dr. was gone. She asked the driver to wait for her since it was only going to be a 10 minute visit. He refused and left. Since the office was closed she called for a ride home. She waited at her Dr.'s office for 4 hours until 7:30pm and the transport did not show up. She had to take a cab home and spend her last $11 for the ride.
The legislature changed medical transport for seniors and the disabled claiming that Veyo out of New Haven was going to be faster and cheaper. Prior to Veyo people could use local cab companies. Do we really want our seniors or disabled to be waiting outside, in the dark, in the cold? I know I don't. After hearing Lisa's story I've heard the same experiences from several more people.
Hartford needs to stop trying to micro manage people's lives. Remember that old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it"? That should be the way government operates. Local cab companies were doing the job and doing it well. It was a boost to small local businesses. When I get to Hartford I'm going to work to fix this broken system.

Today Andy donated 10 turkeys totaling over 135 lbs to the Food Drive at Big Y in Norwich put on by TVCCA and sponsored by WCTY. He issued a challenge to all current state legislators and candidates to meet or beat his donation.
