🌱 Before you grab your battery-powered mower, trimmer, or leaf blower, remember that lithium-ion batteries need proper care to stay safe.

πŸ”₯ Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Tips for Yard Equipment:

β€’ Use only the charger designed for that battery
β€’ Stop using the battery if it becomes damaged, swollen, or overheats
β€’ Charge batteries on a hard, flat surface away from combustible materials
β€’ Do not leave batteries charging unattended or overnight
β€’ Store batteries indoors in a cool, dry place – not in sheds, garages, or vehicles exposed to extreme heat or cold
β€’ Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash – recycle them at approved collection sites

Damaged or improperly charged batteries can cause fires. A few simple steps can help keep your home and garage safe while you tackle those yard projects.

Chimneys and vents need to be cleaned and inspected by a qualified professional at least once a year.

Allow ashes to cool before disposing of them. Place ashes in a tightly covered metal container and keep the ash container at least 10 feet away from the home and any other nearby buildings. Never empty the ash directly into a trash can. Douse and saturate the ashes with water.

Always use a metal or heat-tempered glass screen on a fireplace and keep it in place. Gas fireplace doors can reach excessive temperatures of 1300 degrees Fahrenheit (705 degrees Celsius). Serious burn injuries from hot glass can happen in less than one second. Install a screen barrier.
