This page is maintained by an employee of the Department, and shall adhere to the City's Social Media policy. We have 2 full-time officers, and cover emergency after-hour calls. Please remember that our officers are not at the shelter for their entire shift. We highly recommend calling the office and setting up an appointment to view our adoptable animals. This helps make sure an Officer will be a

vailable. We handle over 1,500 calls a year, ranging from roaming dogs to cruelty investigations, from rabies exposure cases to injured animals. Our days are highly unpredictable, and no two days are ever the same. Please be patient with our officers if you are waiting for a call back.

Homeward Bound CT's Spay It Forward program has been absolutely instrumental in helping us get all of our dogs spayed and neutered PRIOR to adoption. If you can help them out by buying a shirt, you'd be helping fund our next set of surgeries! We have 3 coming up in the next 5 weeks, so they really can use the help.

MEET SETH!

Seth is a sweet but nervous bunny who came from a hoarding situation. He is under a year old. He enjoys his veg, and likes ear skritches once hes comfortable. He will need to be an inside bunny. MEET GEMMA!

Gemma is a sweet but very shy lady. She is a pit bull X Lab, who will be 6 years old next month. She is currently spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm and is on prevention. She has been great about her housebreaking here. She came to us after she was found tied to a tree in Riverside Park. Her previous owner was not able to be located for various reasons, and now Gemma is looking for a new home. She is slow to warm up to new people, and is quite nervous around men specifically. But once she knows she can trust you, she is an absolute lovebug! She rides great in the car, but could use some leash manners. She did OK meeting another dog, but a meet and greet will be required with any potential new dog siblings. She was interested in the cats, but not overly so. She would do better in an adults-only home, or one with teenagers and above. If you are interested in meeting Gemma, please call New London Animal Control and set up a time to visit with her.

Yesterday morning, we helped our elderly Chihuahua mix cross to the Rainbow Bridge. She ate her breakfast at about 830, and at approx. 1045 am she collapsed in her kennel. She was rushed to the vet, where the decision was made to euthanize her due to her poor condition. We named her Iris, and held her while she made her final journey. We asked her to wait for us to meet her at the Bridge, because her previous owners don't deserve the honor of escorting her over after abandoning this poor elderly girl in the rain.
This job is never easy. Rest easy Iris. We'll see you in a while.
