Announcement.

As of Tuesday, 09/01/2026, the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office has suspended the use of FLOCK cameras. As an agency, we only had one FLOCK camera operating, and it was in the northbound lanes of US 61 near Spencer Creek. This camera has been covered with black plastic. The other camera we possess is attached to our mobile traffic (speed) trailer. That trailer is in the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office for now.

We have set up a meeting with our representative for FLOCK.
Some of our questions are: What information is being retained? Who has access to the information? Do you sell any information you obtain from the cameras? Plus many more.

I am in favor of the original purpose I was sold on for the cameras, which is public safety, i.e., receiving notifications from FLOCK pertaining to dangerous wanted persons, endangered elderly persons, and abducted and endangered children. However, media stories and concerned citizens have brought to my attention that there may be more to the system than I am aware of.

Until I am satisfied with the information I receive from FLOCK, the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office will not be operating them.

Always happy to help, even if it does involve wasps 😁. Thank you Ralls County Library.

Always happy to help, even if it does involve wasps 😁. Thank you Ralls County Library.

Teamwork…it looked like a large family of wasps wanted to come to the library via the Dropbox. After a few patron calls to the library, the Ralls County Sheriff’s office came to help. Those wasps were sure mad and took it out on one deputy! Ouch!! Thanks to Ralls County Sheriffs office for helping with the smallest tasks. I appreciated it… sitting in the comforts of my car.

We received info today that a resident was called and advised they missed federal jury duty, had a warrant for their arrest and the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office was going to come arrest them.

Reminder…Please do not fall for scams like this and contact our office if you have any questions or concerns and especially do not give out personal information or send money.

There are some questions about this camera on Rte H in Center. We have been informed that this is from MO Dept. Of Transportation and they are conducting a traffic study on Rte H. If I hear anything different I will pass it on and feel free to reach out to me with any other questions on this.

Last night, a group of fishermen were on the Mississippi River near the Saverton Lock and Dam and observed what could have been possibly consistent with the outline of a human body, in the river via a Live Scope fish finder. Out of an abundance of caution, the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified and searched the area thoroughly. Their findings indicated the object in the water was not human remains. We always encourage anyone to notify law enforcement when something might appear suspicious and appreciate the ones who did last night.

Yesterday I posted about a scam alert. It’s not just Ralls County. Greene County IL Sheriff’s Office (about an hour away from Ralls county) posted a very similar warning as we did yesterday. Be vigilant and again, never give sensitive personal information or any type of banking/financial information. If in doubt, call us.

SCAM ALERT!!!
We are getting calls from residents reporting that someone will call them saying they are from the Ralls County Sheriffs Office and try to get information from them. One caller contacted one of our deputies today and reported someone called them and used my name and a fictitious badge number supposedly I have, trying to get info from them and threatening their arrest if they hung up, pretending they were me.

If you get any calls like this, and it seems strange, please feel free to call us. If we need to speak with you in person, we will either contact you in person or ask you to come to our office in New London. Never give out financial information such as bank accounts or routing numbers or any sensitive information about your identity. Again, if in doubt, please give us a call.

Capt. Kevin Coates
Ralls County Chief Deputy
