Every Soldier has a story. This is Sergeant Chokas’s.
Before the Army, Sergeant Chokas was searching for purpose—working different jobs after high school while trying to find a meaningful path. The Connecticut Army National Guard gave him the structure, discipline, and opportunities to build a life centered on service, leadership, and personal growth.
As an Infantryman, Fire Team Leader, and Sergeant, he discovered a passion for leading, mentoring, and helping others overcome challenges. Along the way, he earned his bachelor’s degree using GI Bill benefits and is now using his remaining Post-9/11 GI Bill to pursue a master’s degree in School Counseling. His goal is to give young people the same guidance, encouragement, and support that helped shape his own journey.
His story is a reminder that the Army National Guard is more than one weekend a month—it’s an opportunity to build a future, pursue your education, develop as a leader, and Be All You Can Be.
Every Soldier has a story. What’s yours?
