We are finalizing plans for this year's event which will be held on Wednesday October 30, 2024.
If you have a resource you would like to share, please contact the office by Monday October 21, 2024 to become a "registered" vendor.
Q - As a veteran, what should I expect from this event?
A - We will be providing door prizes, food, haircuts, card tables, bingo, co****le, and an array of valuable resources.
Q - Is this turkey giveaway?
A - Yes, this is turkey giveaway day, but we hope you get much more from the day.
Q - What do I need to bring?
A - As a veteran, you must provide proof of veteran status, as well as proof of Perry County Residency (DD214, OR retired ID card, OR Perry County Veteran ID AND utility bill or bank statement indicating current Perry County address)
Q - I am an unmarried widow of a veteran. Can I attend?
A - Yes. Our office is here to support veterans and their surviving spouses. Just bring the veterans' discharge and proof of Perry County residency (as above)
Q - What types of resources will be available?
A - We will be hosting informational resources from County Offices, Hunting and Fishing, Service Organizations, Jobs, Consumer Education, Banking, Insurance and Health, Equine Therapy, Honor Flight, VA Healthcare information and more.
Q - What are the hours of this event?
A - 11am - 7pm
Q - Do I need to be there at 11am?
A - No, as the line is very large at opening, we suggest those with impaired mobility or difficulty standing wait until after 1PM.
Q - If I use a walker or wheelchair at home, should I bring it to this event.
A - YES. We will have a very limited quantity of assistive devices available, but PLEASE, if you know you need assistance, bring your equipment.
Q - Is handicap parking available?
A - You will be able to drop off close to the front door of the coliseum and park in the midway area. Our parking crew does their best to accommodate, but many of our veterans have handicap placards or plates. If your mobility is not limited, we kindly ask that you park farther out.
Q - What time does bingo start?
A - We are planning for around 1PM.
Q - What time are haircuts available?
A - 11am - 7PM
Q - When is food available?
A - All day.
Q - I don't need anything from you or your office, why should I come?
A - We don't know who you are or how we can help if we have not met you. Even if you don't need anything from us now, we encourage you to come to the event and spend time with fellow veterans.
Q - Don't you have a master list of all veterans in the county?
A - NO. The only way we know you are in Perry County is if you register in our office. We love to meet each and every one of you.
Q - What do you mean you don't know how you can help?
A - Based on your time in service, service location, medical conditions, financial situation we may be able to help you apply for local, state or federal benefits.
